Before we begin, it is important to note that cannabis tinctures should be made with decarboxylated cannabis. Decarboxylation is the process of heating cannabis to activate its psychoactive effects. To decarboxylate your cannabis, grind it and spread it out evenly on a baking sheet. Bake it in the oven at 240°F for 40-60 minutes, until it turns golden brown.

- Decarboxylated Cannabis
And finally,
- A Strainer
Step 1: Decarboxylating your Cannabis
Before making your tincture, you'll need to decarboxylate your cannabis to activate the THC and other cannabinoids. To do this, preheat your oven to 240°F and spread your ground cannabis evenly on a baking sheet. Bake for 40-60 minutes, making sure to stir the cannabis occasionally until it turns a light brown color and has a nutty aroma.
Once your cannabis is fully decarboxylated, you can begin making your tincture!

Step 2: Preparing the Alcohol
While the cannabis is in the oven, you can prepare your alcohol. Grain alcohol, such as Everclear, is commonly used for tinctures because it's highly concentrated and will extract the most cannabinoids. You can dilute it with distilled water to your desired alcohol content (usually around 70-80%).
Step 3: Combine the Cannabis and Alcohol
Once the cannabis has been decarboxylated and the alcohol is prepared, combine the two in a mason jar. Use about one ounce of cannabis per 500 mL of alcohol.

Step 4: Shake and Store
Seal the jar tightly and shake vigorously for a few minutes. Store the jar in a cool, dark place, and shake it once a day for at least two weeks. This will allow the alcohol to extract the cannabinoids from the cannabis.
Step 5: Straining the tincture
After two weeks, strain the tincture through a cheesecloth or a coffee filter to remove any plant material. You can use a funnel to make this process easier. Squeeze the cheesecloth or filter to extract as much liquid as possible.
