Every Midnight, Someone Knocks on Apartment 307

A chilling mystery thriller about an apartment, a midnight knock, and a secret that refuses to stay buried.

The first knock came exactly at midnight. Not 11:59 p.m. Not 12:01 a.m. Exactly midnight.

Three sharp knocks echoed through the hallway outside Apartment 307. Emma Carter looked up from her laptop, startled by the sudden sound. She had moved into the old apartment building only three days earlier and barely knew any of her neighbors. At first, she assumed someone had the wrong door.

She waited for a moment, expecting another knock or perhaps the sound of footsteps. Instead, there was only silence. Curious, she walked to the door and looked through the peephole. The hallway was completely empty. No footsteps echoed in the corridor, and no voices could be heard. Confused, she returned to her work and tried to forget about it.

The following night, the knocking returned.

Again, it happened at exactly midnight.

Three deliberate knocks sounded through the hallway. This time Emma immediately rushed to the door and opened it. Once again, nobody was there. The hallway stretched in both directions beneath flickering fluorescent lights. A cold draft drifted through the corridor, sending a shiver down her spine.

Emma stepped outside and looked around. The elevator doors remained closed. The stairwell was silent. Whoever had knocked had vanished impossibly fast. A feeling of unease settled in her stomach.

The next morning, she mentioned the incident to the building manager, an elderly man who had worked there for years.

The moment she described the midnight knocking, his expression changed.

"Did it happen exactly at midnight?" he asked quietly.

Emma nodded.

The manager looked away and sighed.

"You should ignore it," he said.

The answer only made Emma more curious.

"Ignore what?" she asked.

But the old man refused to explain further.

That night, Emma found herself watching the clock.

11:57 p.m, 11:58 p.m, 11:59 p.m.

Then it happened.

Three knocks. Louder than before. More deliberate.

More demanding. Emma opened the door instantly.

The hallway was empty once again.

But this time she noticed something unusual.

At the far end of the corridor stood a woman.

The figure was motionless.

Watching.

The hallway lights flickered suddenly. Darkness swallowed the corridor for a brief second. When the lights returned, the woman was gone.

Emma quickly shut the door and locked it.

Sleep was impossible after that.

The following day, she began asking neighbors about Apartment 307. Most refused to discuss it. Others looked uncomfortable and changed the subject. Finally, one elderly resident agreed to talk.

When Emma mentioned the midnight knocking, the woman's face turned pale.

"I knew it would start again," she whispered.

Emma leaned forward.

"What would start again?"

The old woman hesitated before speaking.

"Twenty years ago, a young woman named Sarah Wilson lived in Apartment 307."

A chill ran through Emma.

"What happened to her?"

The woman lowered her voice.

"She disappeared."

No body was ever found. No evidence was discovered. One night Sarah simply vanished without a trace. Police investigated for months but eventually the case went cold.

After her disappearance, however, strange stories began spreading throughout the building.

Residents claimed that every night at midnight, someone knocked on the door of Apartment 307.

The mysterious knocking continued for years before suddenly stopping.

Until now. Emma returned to her apartment feeling deeply unsettled.

That night, she decided she wanted answers.

When midnight arrived, the familiar knocking echoed through the hallway.

Emma opened the door immediately. The corridor was empty.

But something had been left outside her apartment.

A photograph.

Her hands trembled as she picked it up.

The picture showed a young woman standing in front of the apartment building.

On the back was a name written in faded ink.

Sarah Wilson. Emma's heart raced.

Then she noticed a handwritten message beneath the name.

"Find me."

The next morning, Emma began researching Sarah's disappearance. She spent hours searching old newspaper archives and police reports. The details were disturbing.

Sarah had been twenty-six years old and lived alone. Several neighbors reported hearing an argument shortly before she disappeared. One witness claimed to have seen her entering the basement on the night she vanished.

After that, nobody ever saw her again.

The basement.

Emma remembered seeing a locked storage area beneath the building.

That evening she approached the building manager again.

The moment she mentioned the basement, his face lost all color.

"Stay away from there," he said firmly.

"Why?" Emma demanded.

The old man refused to answer.

His reaction convinced her that she was getting closer to the truth.

At 11:45 p.m. that night, Emma grabbed a flashlight and quietly made her way downstairs.

The basement was colder than the rest of the building. Dust covered the floor, and the air smelled damp and stale. At the far end of the room stood a rusted metal door secured by an old lock.

As she approached, she noticed scratches across the concrete floor, as though something heavy had once been dragged through the room.

Then she heard it. Three knocks.

Not from above. Not from the hallway.

From behind the locked door.

Knock, Knock, Knock.

Emma froze.

Her pulse hammered in her chest.

Gathering her courage, she found a metal pipe nearby and struck the lock repeatedly until it finally broke apart.

The door slowly creaked open.

Inside was a small storage room.

And in the center sat an old wooden trunk.

Emma approached cautiously.

Every instinct told her to run.

Instead, she lifted the lid. Inside were human remains.

For a moment, she couldn't breathe.

Beside the remains lay a silver necklace.

The pendant was engraved with a single name.

Sarah.

The missing woman had been there all along.

Hidden beneath the building for twenty years.

Emma immediately called the police.

The investigation that followed uncovered a horrifying truth. The former building manager, who had died years earlier, had been responsible for Sarah's murder. After an argument, he had killed her and concealed her body inside the basement storage room.

For two decades, the secret remained hidden.

But the truth had refused to stay buried.

Days later, Sarah's remains were finally laid to rest, and her family received the closure they had been denied for so many years.

That night, Emma sat quietly inside Apartment 307.

As midnight approached, she watched the clock.

11:59 p.m. Then midnight. Silence.

No knocking. No footsteps. No shadows in the hallway.

For the first time since she moved into the apartment, the building felt peaceful.

As she prepared for bed, a gentle breeze drifted through the room.

Her eyes fell on the photograph of Sarah resting on the kitchen counter.

For just a moment, Emma could have sworn she saw the young woman smiling.

Then the image returned to normal.

And from that night onward, no one ever knocked on Apartment 307 again.
