The True Story Behind Haunted Author Kelly Martin

Kelly Martin is a paranormal author with several novels and novellas to her credit. She lives in an “incredibly creepy” 100-year-old farmhouse that is haunted. She’s had several ghostly experiences in her home and on investigations.

Kelly and I have been author friends for a few years now since I interviewed her on one of my podcasts, The Ghosts That Haunt Me.

After that meeting, I knew that I needed to get her story out there. (After all, I write anthologies of Real Ghost Stories.) So I asked Kelly if I could do this article and help get her story out there.

Kelly says, “My house is an old renovated farmhouse that was brought down from a hill to its current location. It’s well over 100 years old. We didn’t know it when we bought it, but the people who lived here before had strange things happen and saw apparitions.”

Kelly has had her share of haunting experiences in her old farmhouse. Between spooky noises and their sightings of apparitions, they have also seen a little blonde girl that could be a doppelganger for their own daughter!

Kelly states, “When I asked why they didn’t tell us this, they said they knew we wouldn’t buy it then.” This statement saddens me. If I had a dollar for how many stories I’ve heard where people were oblivious to the horrors that happened in their homes or on their land before residing there I’d be using it to The Bahamas right now. Seriously. If I was a real estate agent, my clients would always come first. I would want to make sure they are happy with their purchase, and that they felt like they got the best possible deal. And in my opinion, a haunted house is not that great of a deal.

“The first time I saw ‘it’ was when my girls were younger. I had told them to get in the car so we could go to work and school. The thing about my daughters is my oldest and youngest have red hair. My middle daughter used to have curly blonde hair. I was in the bathroom finishing up getting ready and my middle daughter ran by, her curls bouncing. I told her to get in the car, but she never ran back down the hallway. I finished up quickly and went into the bedroom to tell her to get in the car, but she wasn’t there. She was in the car the entire time. I told my husband, who didn’t believe me.”

For those that do not know much about the paranormal, a doppelganger is traditionally seen as the ghostly counterpart of a living person. Seeing one was believed to foreshadow all kinds of trouble. What does this mean for The Martin’s old farmhouse? Does it mean trouble may ensue at some point? Or is it just a lost little girl who happens to look strikingly similar to their daughter?

Kelly’s husband wasn’t always a believer in the paranormal. He had his own share of experiences that convinced him otherwise.

“About two years later, my middle daughter had gotten in trouble at school. My husband and I were in the kitchen talking about it. My middle daughter was in the living room. Our other two kids were in the bedroom. We have an open-concept house so you can see the living room from the kitchen.” Kelly says, “I was facing my husband, my back to the living room. My husband is taller than me and could see over my head.”

After her husband saw something he couldn’t explain, Kelly continues, “He did a double take and said, “Get back in the living room!” She (Kelly’s daughter) sat up in the recliner, all confused, and said, “I’m right here, Daddy.” He said, “I saw you running down the hallway. I saw you! Maybe it was your sisters, but it had to be you. I saw blonde hair.” He checked the bedroom and, sure enough, both girls were in their playing. Made him a believer.”

I can imagine having lived in my share of haunted homes that this, although scary, probably helped ease Kelly’s mind. You see, I lived in a haunted house as well. So haunted I had to get medicated because I was afraid to sleep at night. (One of these days I’ll do an article on my own experiences.) My husband was skeptical as well and it was frustrating. That is until he had his own experiences he couldn’t explain. It truly does make you feel less alone when others understand what you are going through.

As for Kelly, she still resides in her haunted home with her family. She also is an author. In fact, she has numerous paranormal thrillers under her belt. (I’ve read a few and they gave me the chills. My favorite is Trinity Row) I honestly think she does an amazing job bringing her books to life.

I have not asked her yet, but I assume some of the hauntings she experiences in real life give her books a much-needed twist that other books in her genre don’t have. Another of her books that is a must-read is Between The Dreaming And The Dead.

I asked Kelly to share a story from her recent ghost investigations as well. She had a pretty creepy one from the Wavery Hills Sanitorium.

“We went there for the first time about three years ago,” she says. “We were on the third floor with our group. The tour guide was telling us about how violent some of the ghosts were on that floor and about the little kid ghosts. (I should mention that I went with my sister and my 14-year-old daughter.) While standing there, my daughter held my right hand. I kinda smiled to myself because teens aren’t always the ones to just grab their Mama’s hand. I already had a bit of a tweet already planned out about how if you wanted to bond with your teen, take them to one of the most haunted locations in the world. Well, I turned to my left to nudge my sister, and it wasn’t my sister. It was my daughter. She wasn’t holding my hand. My sister was beside her. I thought okay, someone else got scared and was holding my hand. I looked and no one was there. No one was even around. I was in the back of the group, the furthest one on that side.”

If you would like to read any of Kelly Martin’s creepy books, feel free to check out Amazon. She has quite the selection! She does write other genres as well as paranormal thrillers.

In conclusion, Kelly Martin is a paranormal author with several novels and novellas to her credit. She lives in an “incredibly creepy” 100-year-old farmhouse that is haunted. She’s had several ghostly experiences in her home and on investigations.
