Detective Davis

The case of the Missing Keys

Detective Davis hangs up the phone. A fire flashes across the man's face and his back straightens. Detective Davis; a private detective with the most diverse reviews and the most outstanding results. The truth behind Detective Davis is simple. Three years ago, the then 23-year-old detective made headlines for his first case. Solving the mystery of the cartel evidence quickly made Detective Davis incredibly famous. Talk about an introduction, Detective Davis proves smarter than the police, the government, and CIA personnel. A detective who specialized in locating evidence for the prestigious John F. Barrett quickly was elevated to best in the business. At 23 Detective Davis working under John F. Barrett, took a misplaced block of wood, and was able to trace this mysterious object to its original location. He made his way to headquarters of the largest and most devious criminal cartel. All the police, government, and CIA personnel working on the case were put to shame by Detective Davis. Solving this case made him so popular that he had to immediately become a recluse to continue working on his career. John F. Barrett being responsible for Detective Davis’s clearance to solve the cartel mystery went ahead and became a handler or assistant to the young detective. Together they could work in anonymity to help the world solve important cases and mysteries. It has been three years since that case and the name Detective Davis has become a whisper. Many articles and information had been released (true believers suspect by John F. Barrett himself) selling Detective Davis to the public as a myth or legend loosely based on the exaggerated accomplishments of detective John Barrett. To most folks when they hear of Detective Davis, they think of him like Santa Clause, a make-believe hero, one you would never see in the flesh.

But the truth of Detective Davis is that he is very real, and when things look rough and the world needs answers, when no one else can find a way, that is when Detective Davis appears. Detective Davis is the one you call when things get so desperate that no one cares who or how or what department saves the day. Detective Davis has never in three years of solving top priority cases let a mystery go unsolved. As he loves to say, “Detective Davis always catches his man.” Three years living as a legend and having a perfect solve record had led to Detective Davis acting in very particular ways. Nonetheless, when a case gets dangerous and no one else can get the job done, Detective Davis is the one and only man to call. To ensure Detective Davis is always available for the most important cases, John is responsible for choosing. John must be sure that each case he gives to Detective Davis is 1) The most important at the time 2) that all the best personnel from a wide range of agencies have tried and failed 3) that time is of the essence. When a case hits all three John makes the call that sets the mystery-solving machine Detective Davis in motion. If we can learn anything from the past three years, it is that Detective Davis will stop at nothing to solve a mystery. Today and right now let us see how Detective Davis handles solving the case of the missing keys. This is an untold, classified, and top-secret case.

I, as the narrator, will be telling the details of this case from a point of view that spares no classified detail of Detective Davis’s involvement in the case of the missing keys. Doing so is in direct violation of all the paperwork I signed before I was briefed about the case of the missing keys. But please have no fear of my retelling it is truthful and accurate. I know all the juicy secrets and I will spill them to you so you may bear witness to the greatest mystery solver of all time.

Let us begin. I know the time, the room, and which exact phone was used to contact John. I was able to use technology to trace John’s location which later led me to Detective Davis’s secret lair, or more like a secret cottage. The reason I know the day the hour the minute that John was contacted about the case is it marks the day I was relieved from the burden of working on the same case. I will not say my name rank or department but just be aware that I was the best personnel from my agency that had tried and failed. I believe that would be number two on John's three criteria for a Detective Davis case.

Without wasting any more time let's get you briefed on this case. The story is simple really. The secretary of defense has access to keys to a foreign country that match a nuclear operating center for that same foreign country that shall not be named. (I know I said all details, but I meant pertaining to Detective Davis and his involvement. You can understand I wish to live in peace, not be hunted for the rest of my life. Because of my duties I may not say much more than this about these keys, just understand they are especially important keys). The missing keys needed to be returned by the end of the weekend or the small mistake could cause the safety of every citizen to be jeopardized. The brief came with information and notes from other highly trained personnel that had tried to find the keys. The keys were said to have gone missing at the estate of Mr. Secretary of defense. Most detectives outlined a six-suspect list. The appropriate professionals already had one suspect in custody as well as the family supervised, while the estate was under investigation. There was a team of 30 individuals who were responsible for surveillance, questioning, investigation, and all matters of the task at hand. John was asked to bring Detective Davis on the morning of Sunday, May 18th at 8:01. It was clear that keys needed to be found and returned by Monday morning to avoid catastrophe.

As soon as the urgent email came through John knew exactly what to do. First, he clicked the attachments; he seemed surprised that several pages were proving the vigilance of high-ranking officials. He quickly sorted through the information and removed and re-organized the pages down to the most important information. It was quite impressive having been on the case how John was able to accurately reorder the information that was important and get rid of excess info in such a short amount of time. After his little magic trick, John made the call.

Detective Davis sounded rather surprised and caught off guard by John’s phone call. It made me wonder was Sunday usually an off day for Detective Davis. After finding out that the myth of Detective Davis was real, I could not help but wonder how this legend lived and worked. The length of John’s and Detective Davis’s phone call was eerie and the best foreshadowing of what was to come. The conversation was so short that there was no need to second guess or underestimate Detective Davis, this man was a LEGEND.

The phone call went like this. After Detective Davis sounded surprised to hear John’s voice John spoke. He said “There is a new mystery afoot. There are keys missing it is of the utmost importance that they are found before Monday morning. Get your shoes, get your hat, pack a bag. We are going to the Hamptons” Detective Davis replied, “See you soon friend” and then click. Detective Davis...
