Taking another life simply isn’t enough for a handful of psychotic killers out there. They take the crime to the next level when they cannibalize the victim. You’ve heard of Jeffrey Dahmer and Ed Gein. Now read about a few other less common cannibal cases.

Murder/Suicide of Derek Ward & Patricia Ward

In October 2014, 35-year-old Derek Ward beheaded his 66-year-old mother, Patricia, kicked her head along a New York street, and then committed suicide by jumping in front of an oncoming train.

Derek suffered from severe psychiatric problems for many years, with an official diagnosis 10-years prior to the 2014 incident. Family stated that he had never been violent before.

Out of Medication

Unfortunately, Derek was out of medication that had always kept him on the straight and narrow despite suffering from psychiatric problems. Derek had an appointment with the doctor for a refill in four days.

The days leading to the murder showed an obvious change in Derek’s behavior. He became easily agitated, once getting angry at Patricia when she dropped a fork on the kitchen floor. Derek said the noise hurt his head but he refused to go to the Emergency Room as she suggested.

Derek Dragged Mom’s Body Down the Road

Derek decapitated Patricia before dragging her body outside to the front of the Farmingdale, New York, the two shared. Since Halloween was a couple of weeks away, neighbors initially thought it was a sick prank.

They discovered that it was not a prank when they went outside to take a closer look.

One neighbor, Nick Gordon, told the New York Post: 'I saw the lady laying right in front and her head was across the street, close to the corner. I thought ''holy s***!'''

He added there was blood smeared down the stairs of the apartment block that looked as if someone had dragged a body.

A Beloved Teacher & Mother

Patrica taught Language-Arts at Farmingdale College for more than 25-years. She was divorced from Derek’s father and had another son, Robert, who died from a heroin overdose in 1997.

Detlev Guenzel

Guenzel is a former police officer who killed and ate the penis of Wojciech Stempniewicz, a man he met online. Guenzel denied any wrongdoing, telling the court he only did what Stempnieicz asked him to do.

The two met on a cannibal fetish website that labeled itself the #1 site for exotic meat. Guenzel told Stempniewicz he’d always wanted to kill and eat a man and said in return, Stempniewicz told him he’d always wanted to be killed and eaten.

So, the two conjured up a plan to make each other’s fantasies come true! Guenzel videotaped himself dismembering Stempniewicz’s body.

Guenzel is currently serving life in prison but is eligible for parole after serving 15-years.

Joseph Oberhansley

Joseph Oberhansely of Louisville, Kentucky, was found guilty of the murder of Tammy Jo Blanton six years after he murdered and dismembered the woman before consuming parts of her body. The court sentenced him to serve the rest of his life in prison.

On September 11, 2013, Oberhansley was found at Blanton’s home with her dismembered body inside the bathtub. A skillet sat atop the stove, inside sitting a pair of blood tongs and a plate with bones and skull sitting close by.

Police took Oberhansely into custody. He admitted to the murder in an interview with police but later recanted the story, saying he come home to find two men in the house. The men killed Blanton and knocked him out, he said in the second version of the story.

Oberhansley was found mentally incompetent to stand trial in 2017. He was later found competent and sentenced to life in prison.
