Can Putin lose his life?

US-based Russian businessman Alex Konanykhin has offered a $1 million reward for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin "as a war criminal" amid a military operation in Ukraine.

"I promise to pay $1 million to any police officer who, in the course of fulfilling his constitutional duty, arrests Vladimir Putin as a war criminal under Russian and international law," the businessman wrote on his Facebook profile a few days ago, in a post with a photograph. western style and the words "wanted dead or alive".

The publication was taken down by the social network, as Konanykhin himself, a former banker and former member of the political circle of former president Boris Yeltsin, writes in a more recent post, where he repeats the text again, but this time without the photo. Konanykhin emigrated to the United States in the mid-1990s.

In order not to be deposed, Putin has to win the war, but he has already lost.

President Vladimir Putin has no choice: either he wins the war he chose to fight in Ukraine or he ends up deposed. There are wars that countries are forced to fight and others that they choose to fight. Russia did not pressure Putin to invade Ukraine.

US intelligence last week estimated that 3,000 Russian soldiers had died in combat in Ukraine. The estimate was revised yesterday: in two weeks, at least 5,000 to 6,000 Russian soldiers were killed.

It's no small thing. The figure reflects the difficulties faced by Russian troops in a war that has been unconventional since its inception. On the one hand, there is the second most powerful army in the world; on the other, a small and poorly armed army.

Ukraine is being armed at the last minute by the United States and European countries to fight a war they cannot fight, lest the world find itself on the threshold of World War III, this time with the use of nuclear weapons.

It is up to an army at a disadvantage to avoid direct combat with another, resorting to guerrilla warfare tactics. This is how the Vietnam Army defeated the French Army and then the US Army in the middle of the last century.

The Vietnamese had a good cause to defend, their country's independence; the French and Americans do not. That makes a difference when going to war. This is what you see now in Ukraine. How can Putin convince his people that Russia is being attacked?

His troops may have superior ordnance, but they lack motivation. Putin said there are no recruits fighting in Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry said there is. Russian soldiers thought they were taking part in military maneuvers.

They discovered that they were not maneuvers, but preparations for the invasion of another country where they have relatives. When war approaches densely populated cities, the stress of the invading troops increases and the war becomes more lethal.

This is what is happening in Ukraine right now, to the surprise of Russians who stayed at home and who are unaware that their children will be able to return in sacks. How much longer will Putin be able to hide the truth from them? And when they know the truth?

The sanctions on Russia demand a satisfactory explanation from Putin for his people. Why whoever had 100 rubles now only has 65? Why did McDonald's around the corner close? Why did Netflix go off the air? Why was the release of the new Batman movie delayed?

Kiev, the capital, may be conquered; the Ukrainian government, exchanged; and President Zelensky, imprisoned or killed. This will not mean that Putin won. The price of maintaining the new order in Ukraine will be more expensive than the price of war.

In order not to fall, Putin cannot lose, but the truth is that he has already lost, and perhaps he knows. 1 million for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin "as a war criminal" in the midst of a military operation in Ukraine.
