Angry Dad Drops 2-Month-Old Son on Head

An angry father on daddy duty for the weekend violently shook his two-month-old son, and then intentionally dropped him on his head on his changing table. Baby Sloan died from his injuries.

Brandon Scott McDaniel, 20, was on daddy duty for the weekend while the mother of his two-month-old son, Sloan, spent time out of town.

Sloan had a bad weekend without his mommy. He was especially fussy and cranky since McDaniel did not have the same soft voice, touch, and warmth as Mommy. Sloan was also coming down with the flu, and he wasn’t having it.

On Sunday, January 12, 2020, Sloan woke up that evening fussy and crying. Overwhelmed and frustrated, McDaniel thought shaking Sloan somehow was the solution to stop the baby’s unease with him.

Shaking Sloan made him cry more. Still frustrated, McDaniel did not place the baby in the crib, walk away, and cool down. He turned baby Sloan upside down and dropped him head-first onto his wooden changing table.

Sloan stopped crying; his body fell limp. McDaniel had nearly killed his son.

Around 10:30 p.m., McDaniel’s father visited the home. He took one look at Sloan and knew something was wrong. He drove McDaniel and Sloan to the fire department, where firefighters performed CPR on the infant until police arrived. Sloan was unresponsive but had a pulse. EMS rushed him to the hospital where doctors determined he suffered subdural hemorrhaging and severe swelling of his brain and tested positive for the flu,

Doctors determined Sloan would never wake up nor breathe without a ventilator. Sloan’s mother and family made the difficult decision to remove him from life support four days later.

Sloan’s cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries to the head, particularly the top of the head, with bleeding and severe swelling of the brain.

McDaniel was initially charged with aggravated child abuse, although the charges were upgraded to first-degree murder after Sloan’s death.

Prosecutors urged the judge to sentence McDaniel to the maximum sentence of 300 months behind bars, although he sentenced him to around half that time with a sentence of 12–15 years in state prison Even 300 months (25 years) is not enough time for a coward like Brandon McDaniel. He is serving his time at Foothills Correctional Institute in Morganton, North Carolina.

My deepest condolences to Sloan’s mother and family. He was the cutest little guy ever. i am so so sorry for your loss.
