American crime story "impeachment"

what I learned

So if you don't know impeachment is the third season of American crime story. The American crime story series that tells the story of a crime each season. This season is the story of the impeachment of Bill Clinton. For those of us who are 30 and older we may have lots of memories of that time or vague knowledge of the events. So here is what I learned from the season and the subsequent research.

Thing #1 I learned is Linda Tripp was the reason we know who Monica is. Linda befriended Monica on Monica's first day at the pentagon. During their first talk Linda figured out that Monica is with someone who is "unavailable" and powerful. It wasn't until after the election that Monica told Linda that she was with the president. When the scandal happened, it was a year into their friendship.

Thing #2: Linda wanted to write a book and that's how the story of Monica came out. Linda's original idea was a Clinton book but at that time that's all that was being released. Then that's when she revealed that she knew someone involved with the president. Linda claims that motives were purely patriotic.

Thing #3: Monica was the one who flirted first. The way it was depicted on the show was that she showed the president the top of her thong. It went on from there. She became almost obsessed with the president and he kept his distance to a certain extent. He basically called and saw her when he wanted to and when it was convenient to him.

Thing #4: After the impeachment the victims were forgotten about, except for Monica. Monica wasn't the only victim nor was she the first. Paula Jones was the first one to come forward publicly. The other three were Kathleen Willey, Leslie Millwee and Juanita Broaddrick. After the impeachment and the media moved on, we all kind of forgot about them. Paula was also supposed to be taken care of but wasn't, so she went on to do her penthouse photoshoot.

Thing #5: Linda was villainized for good reason. Linda wasn't liked already. She was already seen as the villain and was causing problem in the workplace with her coworkers. People who heard her stories also said she wasn't to be believed. When she went into the grand jury, she was treated worse than Monica. I think the grand jury saw Monica as Linda's victim in a way.

Thing #6: Monica wasn't the first one to come forward. She wasn't the last to come forward. Paula came forward while Monica was working for the white house. Paula's run in with the president happened when the president was the governor of Arkansas.

Thing #7: Linda was fired from the pentagon after the scandal. This was something that I learned after the show. It was standard procedure. She also sued US Department of Defense and the US Department of Justice for releasing information about her.

You have to remember that this was before me too. When woman came forward it was met with a fight. They weren't listened to or respected like they are now. Especially in the case of Bill Clinton, they thought that the women were lying for attention or money. With Linda coming forward it was all for personal gain. Stories like this is why we have me too and sexual harrasement laws.

I'm sorry this took so long to do; life has been crazy. I do hope that you enjoyed this. If there are any scandals or crimes you want to hear about let me know.
