The elephants in Dali’s portraits stamped in Kim’s mind. During the trial, she had found herself thinking of the surreal aspects of her case and just overlapped them with the paintings.

When she focused, really focused, she could see the colors and the lighting and the representation of those elephants. They marched right through her subconsciousness. Her consciousness stay attuned to the glass of water right next to the pitcher.

Brenda leaned in to Kim. “He’s going to get up there and tell you some more about how you were bloodthirsty and wanted to murder like the low lifes that killed all those rappers.

You’re going to just sit as upright as you are. Do you ever slouch?”

Kim shook her head slightly. “Anyway, let him talk his way out of this one. We’ll see how many gaping holes will be in his story.”

Prosecutor Keith Haysbern approached the area not too far from the judge.

“Now, you’ve heard about the decorations and the deployments that Miss Jergensen either earned or participated in over her career. That’s great. We must remember, she is a trained killer on two fronts. Just like with any homicidal individual, she is cold and calculating.”

“Miss Jergensen has only perpetuated the role of a murderer this entire time. The judge was lenient enough to try this special case. She permitted Jergensen the opportunity to investigate the very case she was accused to have committed. That’s unprecedented. It’s downright unheard of.”

“Yet she had Miss Susan’s body exhumed and reexamined. She claims that there were marks thst excused her from being culpable of this crime.”

“I beg to differ. It is because of the defendant was so cavalier after being hand a not guilty verdict in her last case, she felt above the law. She felt she could do anything, say anything, and that would be it. That was God saving her nose. She presented in her deportment nothing but a shell. She is an emotionless ender of worlds. She didn’t kill Naomi Fender. That is true. She was cleared of that case. But in the case of Susan Dunwitty, Jergensen killed her in cold blood, knowing that she didn’t kill one. What would anoter murder trial be for her, she thought?”

“She figured she would just skate and get with murder twice. That was her goal. She felt in her heart that she could transform into Miss Hyde and leave people thinking about Captain Jekyll or Detective Jekyll. She had a ruse to uphold. Somewhere in that brain, she housed two totally different ends: to protect this nation and protect the streets of this country. She achieved these aspirations. I don’t detract those qualities from her. But again, we must remember someone who was in law enforcement and felt there must be something she could do to upset the lives of others.”

“That’s what it’s about. She was so selfish and inconsiderate that she had no time for helping out her fellow men and women beyond the badge and gun. Beyond her choo choo tracks on her collar. She ran through the town of Wilmington, Delaware like a cowgirl. She tried to go to the FBI Academy with the same spirit.”

“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, it is time to permit this criminal no further breaths of liberty. She ought to go back to the single cell from which she came. It was your tax dollars that were behind the hotel stay and amenities. Now it is time for Jergensen to revisit the cage where she belongs. I yield to the court, your honor.” Gavel bang.
