Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas star in the novel adapted movie, Deep Water. The movie was realized on giant streaming site Hulu on the 18th of March in 2022. The pair star as a suburban couple whose last name is Van Allen. They are living in an affluent neighborhood in New Orleans and have a six-year-old daughter. Affleck plays the character of Vic, a rich retired robotics engineer.

He builds drones that have bombs and kills innocent people in Third World countries according to his wife Melinda, who is played by the gorgeous Ana de Armas. She seems not impressed by the career choices he took, but it has made the family live a comfortable life that is filled with house parties.

One thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is the fact that they are in an open marriage and don't seem to hide it, well at least Melinda doesn't, as she publicly flirts with younger men who she calls her friends, much to the dismay of their not so progressive neighbors.

The men in the neighborhood feel like Vic must rein Melinda in because her behavior is making them uncomfortable, but he brushes it off and says he will never manage his wife. However, his words do not come close to his actions. We learn early on that one of Melinda's "friends" has been missing, and she is visibly upset about that, since there is a running joke that Vic killed him.

Well, actually, Vic is the one who started the joke. It seems it is closer to the truth, as more of Melinda's friends seem to be ending up dead in the most unexpected places. Vic is clearly a jealous husband that can not stand to see his wife with other men, but doesn't want her to leave him, so tolerates her behavior in front of others, which is very cringy to watch. He clearly does not like the arrangement, but his wife is enchanting, and he seems obsessed with her.

His jealousy towards the men who give his wife attention comes out in the way he deals with Charlie, a talented piano player, who gives Melinda lessons. There is clearly a strong sexual connection between Charlie and Melinda as they flirt in the swimming pool all evening, when there are invited to a neighbor's house party. Vic is there as well, watching like a lion in the jungle waiting to pounce on its prey, and he does just about that when everyone leaves the pool when it starts raining. Vic swims close to Charlie and drowns him. It is quite interesting, as no one sees him do it, despite there are plenty of people in the house. Once Charlie's lifeless body is discovered, Melinda screams that Vic killed Charlie in front of their shocked neighbors and the police.

Due to lack of evidence, Vic is a free man and is back at home. The couple have an honest and open discussion about Vic's ways, he asks Melinda if she is not afraid of him. To which she replies that she isn't. Despite the heart, to heart his wife does not change her ways and soon has another man in her orbit, this time an ex. He, too, ends up dead in a river.

Melinda justifies her behavior by stating that Vic would be bored if she didn't do the things she does. These are words she repeats throughout the film like a broken record, until she realizes that her actions have killed her so-called friends, but after all that she doesn't turn her husband in and will obviously continue finding more poor victims to be killed by Vic.
