You’ve fumbled the bag. Other news outlets, outside of the hip hop genre have covered the news of another man who became involved in the murder of Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell. You should be ashamed of yourselves. This story should have been up a long time ago. The story broke yesterday (May 27, 2026) and exposed how Jay Bryant had confessed to being an accessory to the crime.

The way you have not been on one of the biggest stories in rap is inexcusable. This man, who is already in prison, may see 15-20 more years behind bars after breaking his silence about the case. Forensics teams even found his DNA at the crime scene. That just backs up a story that should supersede Crip Mac angling at Latto or when Drake will drop his latest collection of songs.

From the time the story became available online, it should have been snapped up by your sources.

Now, you’re going to have to shuffle about with hat in hand regarding the fact you didn’t see this story or failed to post it. Jam Master Jay deserved better from you. If European outlets can pick up on the story before you, what does that say about your credibility? What does that say about your dedication to all things hip hop.

I have respect for you and have used countless stories for my own publications. But this is the first time I looked for a perspective coming from hip hop to cover a massive story like this. While you look at Akademiks predictions, there is an alleged murderer of one of the biggest icons in hip hop.

The way that these miscreants killed Jay should have been an impetus for the updated information. Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr. each had been sentenced for the crime and convicted. With that said, Bryant became the first to fully admit to the slaying.

And most if not all of you journalists and photographers dropped the ball. I will give you this…. If the story is front page news by noon, I will recant this rant. However, if you do not produce excellent reportage, it will only mean the slow and agonizing demise of rap journalism. Mizell had fallen on hard times and allegedly switched to the dope game when the money got tight. When Run-DMC’s gravy train slowed down, JMJ had to recalibrate and switch lanes. Sadly, this led to his homicide.

You didn’t pick this up ahead of time, though? You didn’t see the importance and monumental display that this story would have? Or is it just more profitable to talk about Jordans? I’m ain’t mad at you. Get that money. But at the same time, this story should have reverberated through the digital atmosphere or rap ‘zines. It is something that is so powerful and crucial to the truth. We must know these cases because of the powerhouse names, yes but also for the justice to be brought to the family members.

If JMJ had been a white DJ, would you have picked it up from there? Would have rushed to the keyboard and knocked out a thousand words on the intricacies of the particular case? I don’t know if you would have. Still, you make your money mainly by annoying ads. Again, get the bag. But don’t expect people to visit your sites if you’re not going to be objective and timely about huge stories like this.

From all points of view, this is a major breakthrough that deserves top of the fold attention. One of the legends in the game was slain so that we could live. We’re all eating off of his carcass, to put it harshly. But it’s true. We’re all looking for that whale of a tale so that we can eat off of these Internet streets. YouTube is Mecca, the algorithm is God, and AI is the universe. All of these notions have been put into place to generate cash for people writing online.

What you did is reprehensible but you can redeem yourselves. You can post the Jam Master Jay story and describe Bryant’s confession.
