Nigerian singer Waje just release her third studio album Waje 2.0 and is currently making the rounds to promote the album. When Waje stopped at Nigerian Info FM, she couldn't help but talk about why she believes Nigerians are not going to fall asleep again when it comes to political issues, and why she believes now a fight that was once mainly for the poor has now begun to affect the entire nation. In her own words, here's exactly what Waje said.

Waje on Nigerian Info FM

Speaking on the radio, Waje said:

It's one thing for everybody to come out and shout and say "hey, nawa o, our country is this" but let's do the talking and also do the doing. We are not going to go back to sleep. I think that we've gotten to a point of frustration where we are living in the reality of it. Initially, it was the poor really that felt the pinch. And the middle class and the upper class felt like "let's speak for the poor" [said with raised noses]. But now, it's now reaching everybody. If it's not touching you in the market in the increase of food [prices], it's touching you in education, you're children are at home. Insecurity, fuel and diesel, the road, today my manager had to come and bill me because now my car is doing koh koh koh. So even if you want to go and buy Bentley, which road will you drive your Bentley?

So it's reaching you everywhere and now you've heard the whole thing about foreign exchange, if you buy dollar you are a criminal. So these are real things happening to people and now, it's not just the poor. And guess what? Lagos is a city surrounded: so the middle class, they're just in the middle and everything else that is surrounding you is the poor. You turn to this junction, it's a slum. You go to this road, it's a slum. In the midst of the most expensive lands and real estates, turn left. Slum. Go inside Lekki Phase 1, e get one fence wey dem do with white paint. Just go across, it's a slum, because my church does community outreach there. So tell me why you will not wake up and do the needful if it's now coming to your doorstep? At some point, you are the person that the poor will be able to reach. Because we are the people they see.

Something happened recently at Lekki-Epe Expressway, I don't know what happened but I think a truck hit somebody and they set [the truck] ablaze. It was the truck that hit the person oh but then people started destroying other people's cars. There was a Landcruiser that his glass was shattered. What does that person have to do with the truck?

Frustration. People will turn their anger to the nearest person they can reach. So if you feel like you are safe, open your eyes, cuz it is coming to your doorstep.

Waje has said it all, and it's not just happening in Lagos, it's happening everywhere! I really do hope we as Nigerians do not fall asleep again because right now, the situation of the country seems to definitely have hit a fever pitch and things at this point just have to get better. Truly, it has touched every single person and now, even to be flaunting car is dangerous because people's eyes are very red. Everybody just has to be careful and ready to vote come the next election.
