The love spell that haunted me five decades later

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it

It was the second day of school in the 10th grade in 1974. I was drinking water at the fountain when a hand gently pushed my face in. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Jesse standing to my right. I quickly ran water on my hand, threw it in his face, and laughed.

That evening, Harvey, who lived in my neighborhood, sat beside me on the school bus. He put his face close to mine and asked if I were talking to anybody. That was our language for having a boyfriend or girlfriend.

I replied no, and he said Jesse wanted to know because he thought I was cute and wanted me to be his girlfriend. I said yes because I thought he was cute. In middle school, he had a girlfriend, and they walked to class together.

I envisioned us walking the high school halls holding hands and sitting together at lunch. I waited, but Jesse never approached me. I had other boyfriends, but Jesse remained in my orbit until senior year, when I met the man I would marry.

We talked on the phone and kissed a few times, but never became an official couple. He would occasionally walk me down the hall and flirt for three school seasons, but never asked me to be his girlfriend. Something happened shortly after I first met Jesse that began haunting me later.

During 10th grade, as I waited for him to ask me to be his girlfriend, I read an issue of Ingenue Magazine. There was an article about making yourself dream about the man you love while you wait for him to come to you in real time.

The instructions were to light a candle and say some words I don't recall now. Next, you lie on a bed and think about the guy and call out his name. I was young and did not realize this was a form of witchcraft, which is against my faith beliefs. I believed it to be innocent fun, and nothing came of it until about 30 years later.

One night in the mid-2000s, I woke up after a vivid dream about Jesse. I had dreamed we were walking down the hall in school and talking. A few months later, I dreamed that he kissed me. What was odd was that in these dreams, I had no memory of being married. It was as if we were teenagers again.

Over the next decade, I had four or five additional dreams about this guy who was never my official boyfriend. I found it strange that I did not dream about any guys I actually dated.

My husband died in 2021, and Jesse passed away in 2024. Imagine my surprise when, about six months ago, I dreamed that Jesse and I were walking through our high school together.

On this occasion, I recalled the love spell from 1974, 52 years earlier. I repented and asked the Lord to forgive me and not let that happen again. So far, it has not.

I believe I got what I wished for, as a teen, in later life. I am thankful that innocent dreams are all that happened. Others have had entities to haunt them after occult experiences.

For whatever reason, my subconscious delayed bringing my teenage actions into my dreams. This was annoying but harmless and taught me a valuable lesson.

I had no idea a youthful action would come back to haunt me years later, but it did. When you deal with the supernatural, you never know what will happen. I think of the adage "Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it".
