Thank You For Breaking Up With Me
Closing this chapter, forever.

I spent 6 years with someone I thought was the love of my life. I thought I was going to marry this person. Bought a truck together, got an apartment together, and spent every day and night together. Until one day, on January 4th, she decided to break up with me. She decided to end it all. In that moment, I couldn’t understand why. I couldn’t comprehend what happened. Did she have someone else in mind? Did she not love me anymore? Did she get tired of me? These questions were always in my mind until I got the right answer. She left me for someone else.
I couldn't understand how someone could leave you just like that. She had someone else after two weeks of the breakup—all the memories we had together. Our souls touched, our hearts were loved, and our minds were alike. Everything we did, we did together. So how can she fall out of love with me?
I was heartbroken. I was in pieces like a broken plate, trying to fix it and put it back together. I got on my knees and cried. Begged and begged God to bring her back to me. For her to reconsider her decision. But God never answered my prayer. That’s when I understood Him. I deserve better. I deserve someone who will love me like there’s no tomorrow. So I come to say, thank you for breaking up with me.
Although we made beautiful memories together, thank you for making me realize that I’m so much more than what you made me feel. Thank you for making me realize my own worth is beyond what you put me through.
I still remember the awful words you told me. They have been in my mind ever since. They don't want to leave my side like a leech on my back, sucking the life out of me. You said to me, "I'm broken." That "no one will ever love me." I still can't wrap my mind around why you would tell me these words. Did you say these words out of anger? But why would she? She is the one who broke up with me.
Now that we’re strangers, I have a couple of things to say, but not to your face or in person because I never want to see you ever again, but in writing, because it has more value and more emotion to it. Now, it is time for me to speak from the broken heart you once told me about.
Now that we are strangers, you will never hold me at night; you will never hug me; you will never kiss my neck; you will never kiss my soft lips, the ones you loved so dearly. You will never hear my sweet laugh when you tell a terrible joke, but I would still laugh at it just to make you happy. You will never see that vulnerable side of me. You will see me with someone else. Someone who will appreciate the little things I do for them. Someone who loves every inch of my body, every curve on my body.
Don’t get me wrong. We have wonderful memories together. But I think she was looking for something different. I don’t blame her for wanting something else for 6 years.
As I looked at the stars at night, I reminded myself that she already had me. She had the chance to love me right, and she chose not to. Don’t hand anybody the same opportunity again. Let someone new love you when you’re ready.
As 6 months have passed, I thank her for breaking my heart. If she hadn't broken my heart, I wouldn't have found the one for me. I cherish this person so dearly in my heart. He is healing my heart that he didn't shatter. He is healing that broken side of me that I didn't want anyone to fix but myself. But he is different in many ways you can ever imagine.
So, I come to say, thank you for breaking my heart. Thank you for damaging me.
