Spirits Linger

Not strong enough to face it... but strong enough to hide it.

Ghosts of past, keeping hold...

Memories, I've been told,

Supposed to fade

With time or trade,

But spirits linger here.

***

The halls, dark and cramped,

With nary but a lamp.

I may not see with naked eye

But feel with heart and cry...

The spirits linger here.

***

Unpacking boxes, one by one...

My instinct is to run.

Can I leave this here to rot

In piles never sought?

The spirits linger here.

***

Healing isn't easy...

In fact, it makes me queasy.

I'm told it's worth it

To get things sorted

But spirits linger here.

***

For now, my trauma lives on ice...

Mistakes repeated thrice.

Not strong enough to face it,

But strong enough to hide it...

Still spirits linger here.
