“I can do this, Mom. I just have to get in there,” Harry says under his breath as he pushes the doors open and enters the building that is his new school.

A huge grin spreads across his face as soon as his feet touch the carpeted floor and he runs through the hallways of the building to find an empty classroom. He opens one door after another until he finds a room with enough seats for all the students. It was filled up pretty quickly too and he walks over to his seat and sits down before taking out his note. The teacher walks in right then with two other teachers trailing behind him. As they make their way to their own seats, she introduces herself.

“I am Mrs. Jane. Welcome to Dayspring ” the woman with short black hair begins. “We are here today to give you a quick orientation, so please follow along when you come back from your class, okay?” She pauses briefly before continuing. “The first few weeks of school will be spent learning things like where each class is located and what classes are happening. We can start by having you take notes on what happens next week so if you want to talk about anything during the week, you can go ahead and ask me during class time. You will also need these,” she says, handing out sheets with information on what subjects and activities will happen throughout the semester. Harry looks at the papers in confusion but thanks her nevertheless. “And we will begin the tour by introducing everyone who is in this school, so let's start with the most popular students in our school…”

As she talks, Harry takes out his notebook and writes down everything she says. Some of the kids are really quiet and it seems like they are all in some kind of special class or something, which is understandable because they look like a bunch of high-achievers. There aren't any boys he knew in particular but they all seem to be around his age and it doesn't matter since they're all going to be working together in groups throughout the year so Harry figures that he'll know them all eventually anyway.

It only takes the whole tour about an hour and a half before lunch rolls around and the entire class stands up to follow Mrs. Jane towards the cafeteria. Harry isn't quite sure what to think about all this. Harry sighs to himself and decides that even though he doesn't know much about the school yet, he will still try to make friends with the people who seem interesting and who might help him understand more about this place, no matter how hard it is.

When they finally make it to the cafeteria, he follows the rest of the group into line to order food. Everyone else has already ordered but Harry hesitates and stares at his tray in front of him. What if he orders something weird or not good enough? He knows he has been eating better lately but it would still feel wrong to eat something strange because they'll feel like he shouldn't have. But it does make sense, considering how much healthier and taller he is compared to most of his classmates and how much older they all look. So Harry takes a deep breath and steels his nerves before ordering a salad and a water.

"Harry!" Someone says excitedly behind him. He turns around to see a boy running towards him. The boy looks around his age with black hair and hazel eyes and Harry can immediately tell that he is a part of one of the popular groups. He is dressed nicely enough and has a backpack slung casually over his shoulder. "Hey! Do you mind if I join you?"

Harry glances at the table of people behind him and tries to figure out if it is fine. After thinking about it for a moment he shrugs and smiles brightly. "Sure!" he replies.

The boy grins and slides into the chair opposite Harry. "Hi, I'm Kennedy Matthew, Ken for ," the boy says cheerfully and extends a hand.

"Hello, I'm Harry Davies." Harry shakes the boy's hand and watches him curiously.

Ken tilts his head slightly. "So...you'r new here, huh?"

"Yeah..." Harry agrees awkwardly. He had never felt so out of place in a crowd before.

Ken frowns thoughtfully. "That's rough." He shrugs. "I'm sorry for intruding on your lunch but I heard you were new and need some friends?"

Harry nods shyly. "Yea, I guess I am."

"Well, if you ever wanna hang out, you can sit with me and my friends," Ken offers, smiling again.

"Thanks, that'd be cool," Harry says and feels grateful. He hadn't expected someone to actually come to his rescue.

After ordering their lunches, Harry and Ken decide to go somewhere outside instead of sitting at the table with all their friends. They end up walking down the street a little away from the cafeteria and sit on a bench. Once they finish their lunches, they decide to walk around the city a little while longer before they decide to head home.

Harry felt so happy about his first day at school. He couldn’t wait to tell his mum all about it.
