Hello, present me!

If a future me could give a current me an advice, what would it be?

Hi, me.

Where does this letter find you, I wonder? Will you be diving in Mexico, or signing your first book contract in Vegas? That novel you have been working on, it sells, doesn't it? You and I never doubted that always knew it would ;)

If a future me could give a current me an advice, what would it be?

Why don't we practice this at schools, the "reverse time capsule"? Instead of sealing the guesses and mementos of the past in the airtight tube and burying it until the better day, you reach into the present from the future.

ME, and only ME will ever know what words I need to hear. Well, here are these words that you so desperately need, my dear ME:

1 You are not alone.

Millions of souls through thousands of years have gone through the lessons that you are learning now. They have learned what grief was, and they moved forward, becoming stronger. And so will you. YOU will become the strongest of them all, in this very point in time, RIGHT NOW! Because I am talking to you from the future and I know that I made it to the destination alright.

2 Shine on, you crazy diamond!

You were born shining, and the years of someone else's abrasions scuffed your shine leaving you to glow weakly. You know what makes you shine, do not worry about the grit and the scratches. Dart like an unstoppable star that you are, through space and time to shine for those who need to see you.

3 Forgive and Let go.

You carry the pain like a scalding-hot iron ball. It burns your hands when you touch it, it burns your chest when you carry it. It blurs your vision. Leave this ball of anger to whoever gave it to you- it isn't yours to carry.

4 Finish your art projects, they are BRILLIANT!

My goodness, YOU LOVE every piece of art that you create. But what is that I hear- an artist's block? Well don't sit on it!

Right now, in this very moment YOU realize that that the biggest mistake all the artists have ever made was not "making mistakes" it's "NOT MAKING THEM"! Woah, mind blown, right? Go, splatter the paint, draw between the drippings. Calligraphy nonsense and write some ridiculous gibberish in your journal. Make yourself laugh and remember what you learned a lifetime ago- you can not harness the chaos, but you can channel it!

5 Accept the WeiRdneSs.

Enough with apologizing for being your wonderful self! For crissakes, your father ate chocolate wafers and swigged pineapple juice for breakfast. Just accept it- YOU is wEiRd. SO UNIQUELY WEIRD. Your WeiRd is so large, it should be a horse and you should ride it into town of NormalcÝ daily, and cause raucous. People love you for that, nobody wants normal.

6 Find the way to talk to your mom

Oof, that is a good one! One million attempts, one billion failures- can't you see: It's not because you are so different, it's because you are too similar. There are no more excuses after all this time you have spent together. I know YOU. Be hones with me, and the heartache will melt away like an ice cube on the sunny day. Here, in the future, I am so proud of the way you have found!

Now, run along and be YOU! The weird, the wonderful, the POWERFUL YOU! see you in the future ;)

Love, Me.
