Cheating Men Don't Like Open Relationships

Cheating Men Aren't Fond of Open Relationships and here's why and here's why I don't understand.

Men are Men even when it comes to relationships. There are Faithful Men who are committed to their relationships or marriages. Unfaithful men that can't even commit or keep their d*ck in their pants. Usually, I would say: if you are not happy with your relationships, just be honest and leave, or better be with someone who wants an open relationship, or better yet, a poly-relationship. But here's the problem? CHEATING MEN DON'T OPEN RELATIONSHIPS!!!!!

Some men who cheat strongly resist open relationships, and that can seem contradictory at first. A few common reasons people point to:

  • They want sexual or emotional freedom for themselves, but feel uncomfortable with their partner having the same freedom.
  • Cheating and consensual non-monogamy are psychologically different. Cheating often depends on secrecy, validation, novelty, ego, or avoiding consequences. Open relationships require transparency, negotiation, and equal rules.
  • Some people are possessive or insecure even while behaving unfaithfully themselves.
  • Others never actually wanted “multiple partners” as a relationship structure they wanted the excitement or escape of something hidden.

That said, it’s not universal. Some people who cheat later realize they actually do prefer consensual non-monogamy and move toward ethical open relationships. And some people in open relationships still cheat, because cheating is about breaking agreements, not just having sex with others.

So, the pattern you’re describing is real enough that many people recognize it, but it’s not a rule about all men or all cheaters. The key distinction is usually:

  • cheating = secrecy + broken agreement
  • open relationship = consent + honesty + agreed boundaries

Those are very different dynamics. There’s no strong statistic specifically showing “cheating men dislike open relationships.” Research usually separates infidelity (cheating) = nonconsensual and open relationships = consensual non-monogamy.

Here's what research does show:

According to NIH National Library of Medicine, in a nationally representative U.S. study, about 8% of people reported nonconsensual non-monogamy (cheating) while only about 4% reported open relationships. Men were more likely than women to report having an open relationship. A survey by Avvo found that only 45% of men said they were morally opposed to open relationships, compared with 62% of women. Studies on jealousy in consensual non-monogamy show that jealousy and possessiveness still exist even among people who agree to openness. Research and therapists often note that some people who cheat are uncomfortable when their partner has equal freedom. That’s more about double standards, insecurity, or control than about non-monogamy itself. So statistically, the evidence actually leans toward many men being more open to the idea of open relationships than women overall, but people who cheat are not necessarily good candidates for ethical open relationships. Despite the research, I don't understand why cheating men don't like being in an open relationship. MEN ARE GREEDY and are afraid to lose their spouses, but what is the point if they are going to cheat? Why stick with their spouse if they are breaking the relationship? It's pointless to be greedy for lying and cheating, not allowing wives to cheat. Those are different behaviors psychologically. Open relationships require consent, communication, equal rules, and emotional transparency. Cheating avoids those things. That’s why someone can want multiple partners but still reject an open arrangement in which their partner has the same rights.

Honestly, if cheating men don't like being in open relationships, then what is the point of being in one if they are not going to commit or submit, but who am I to judge, as I said, men are men, whatever, good luck cheating even if their partner keeps getting hurt by them.

Do you think Cheating Men Should be in Open Relationships????
