The Solstice Awakening
Section 1: The Call of the Past Brightridge was a town with a demeanor of calm secret, settled in the moving slopes and thick backwoods of the English open country. The cobblestone roads wound their direction through pleasant bungalows and old stone structures, murmuring stories of a former time. Among these murmurs was the legend of the Solstice Custom, an old function accepted to tackle the force of the sun on the longest day of the year.

Linus
June 4 2023 LINUS I opened my eyes one at a time and the sun was so bright so I had to squint a little but it also feels so warm and soft on my skin and I rolled around in the grass on my back with my feet in the air and everything felt light and weightless and like I was floating but I wasn’t because I was on the grass but that is how light I felt and when I jumped up so so fast and nothing ached and I was so strong so I started running in circles and noticed I was in a big green field and so I ran as fast as I could to the other side of it and I was as fast as the wind blows and the wind blew my ears back like in a car but it was because I was so fast, and when I got to the other side of the field I turned around and ran back to where I started and again I was so fast, maybe even faster than the first time, faster than I ever ran after a frisbee which I thought was impossible but I was running as fast as the wind and when I got to the other side, to the spot I woke up from my nap, there was a field of carrots which was wonderful because I love carrots and I thought this must be what Heaven is like, filled with carrot snacks and a body that is light and I thought “how do I know what Heaven is?” and I just knew that there was a place after the world with my people but before I could think about it too long a rabbit raced across my path and I could tell it wanted me to follow it so I chased the rabbit over a hill and then chased it more up to the top of the highest mountain and the rabbit disappeared and the sun was really close to my face and I closed my eyes to soak the sunbeam into my bones even though they didn’t hurt anymore, and when I opened them this time, the whole sky was dark except for way far away where it was bright, and there was a rainbow. I wanted to go towards the rainbow even though it was dark it felt safe-dark so I started walking but slowly, not like the wind but like when I stop to sniff everything on a walk with Mom or Big Guy. But I kept walking, and the rainbow didn’t get closer and the hill didn’t get further so it stayed the same distance ahead and behind and then the rabbit showed up again so this time I did not chase it but instead I crouched down really low to the ground so I could look in its eyes as best as I could and I moved slowly so that I didn’t startle him and he wiggled his little rabbit nose and so I showed him I could wag my tail but I think he already knew that and he came closer and then closer and then he whispered in my ear. He told me many secrets about the world with people in it and about my body and what was happening, and he told me secrets about this place with the rainbows and the grass and the carrots and the wind that carries me and smells like the waves I like to splash in and I understood and felt sad and happy all at the same time. The rabbit whispered one more thing in my ear before he turned into a ball of glowing light and floated away in sparkling dust made of stars, he told me to call out a name. I didn’t understand why but I trusted this rabbit so I did what he said and I stood up tall on the mountain side with the rainbow in front of me and the field of carrots behind me and I got puffed up really big and as loud as I could, I called out a name. I heard it echo as far as the rainbow and beyond, and in all the spaces that are dark and light. I called out a name, and that name was Charlie.

"Elara's Enchanted Journey"
In the magical land of Eldoria, where dragons soared gracefully and forests whispered ancient secrets, lived a young girl named Elara. She had a vivid imagination and often found herself lost in dreams of grand adventures. Her home was a quaint cottage nestled at the edge of the Enchanted Forest, a place brimming with mystery and wonder. Elara spent countless hours wandering through the forest, her mind painting pictures of fantastical realms and daring escapades. One bright morning, as Elara ventured deeper into the forest than she ever had before, she stumbled upon a hidden glade. The air here felt different, charged with an almost tangible sense of magic. In the center of the glade stood an ancient, gnarled tree, its bark etched with intricate patterns that seemed to glow faintly. At the base of the tree, Elara noticed a small, ornate door. Her curiosity piqued, she reached out and pushed the door open, revealing a shimmering portal inside. Heart pounding with excitement, Elara stepped through the portal and found herself in a world straight out of her wildest dreams. The sky was a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors, shifting and changing with every glance. The ground beneath her feet sparkled as if covered in a layer of fine, magical dust. All around her, mythical creatures roamed freely—majestic unicorns, graceful griffins, and fluttering fairies that left trails of glittering light in their wake. Elara quickly realized that in this fantastical realm, she possessed the power to shape reality with her thoughts. She conjured magnificent castles that soared into the clouds, summoned stars from the heavens to dance in her palm, and whirled through fields of flowers with beings made of pure, radiant light. Every whim and fancy she had ever entertained came to life before her eyes. As she explored this new world, Elara made many friends. There was Zephyr, a playful dragon whose fiery breath could light up even the darkest of nights, and Alaric, a wise old wizard who took her under his wing and taught her the ancient arts of magic. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, discovering hidden realms and uncovering long-forgotten secrets. Despite the enchantment and wonder of this world, Elara soon began to feel a deep, aching longing for her simple life back in Eldoria. She missed the cozy warmth of her cottage, the comforting crackle of the hearth, and the familiar faces of her friends in the village. One evening, as the twin moons rose high above the horizon, casting a silvery glow over the land, Elara confided in Alaric. “This place is wonderful,” she said softly, “but I miss my home. I miss the people and the simple joys of my life in Eldoria.” Alaric, his eyes twinkling like the stars above, smiled kindly. “Elara,” he said, “true magic lies not just in the extraordinary, but in appreciating the ordinary as well. You have the power to bring the enchantment of this world into your own life. Use your imagination to find wonder in the everyday.” Inspired by his words, Elara made the difficult decision to return home. She bid farewell to Zephyr and her other magical friends, promising to carry their memory in her heart always. Stepping back through the portal, she emerged into the familiar embrace of the Enchanted Forest, the sights and sounds of Eldoria welcoming her back. Back in her cottage, Elara saw everything with new eyes. The chirping of crickets, the rustle of leaves in the breeze, and the glow of fireflies all seemed infused with a touch of magic. She realized that her adventures had changed her, teaching her to see the beauty in the mundane and the extraordinary in the everyday. Elara began to share her stories and experiences with the villagers, inspiring them to dream and find joy in the simple things. She showed them that magic wasn’t just in fantastical realms, but in the way they viewed the world around them. Her life, though rooted in reality, was forever touched by the fantastical, blending both in perfect harmony. In Eldoria, Elara lived happily, always finding magic in every moment. She encouraged others to dream big and see the wonder in their own lives, proving that the most extraordinary adventures often begin with a simple dream and a touch of imagination. Through her, the spirit of the Enchanted Forest and its endless possibilities continued to thrive, reminding everyone that magic is everywhere if you know where to look.

Emily
The alarm rang much to early. She wished to stay under her warm blankets but she knew this was her only chance. She silenced it quickly, rolled out of bed and pulled on her boots. Her legs were stiff from sleeping in her jeans. She eased them into movement as she snuck across the house. From the chair she grabbed her bag and in its place she set the letter. As she slipped out the front door her wild mane of long auburn hair bounced behind her. She second guessed the decision to leave like this but she knew conversion would never get anywhere. Her long powerful legs crossed the rocky path effortlessly. In a blink she stood before the barn. Her equine friend barely noted her presences, the saddle, the bridle, but he shifted at her nerves. Soon she stood at the open field, working up to a striding trot she needed some distance before sunrise. The rhythmic bounce of the horse would probably jostle the thoughts of most but she had always found the rhythm like a metronome, it keeps her thoughts in balance and steady. Her breathing aligned and the smell of horse flooded her nostrils. Her athletic arms rested with a loose reign. Everyone in town had noticed she was different despite the effort to blend, to be "normal" but they talked when she walked by. She had learned to ride very quickly because out here she didn't have to hide. Her heart was wild, untamed, and that flame glowed like hot embers in her green eyes. Her hands and feet burned with idleness. Over the last few weeks she had collected all the information she could. Every rumor and every whisper she had heard pointed North, to the mountains. Somewhere within the snow peaks lay clues to where she was from, why she was here, and more importantly what she was. She was finally far enough that she knew no one would follow and no one would know. She let her sweater slide off her arms. She felt the stretch and ache that came with the lack of motion as her wings unfolded from her back, tilting in and out of the wind. Extending out past her open arms the feathers ruffled in the first beaming raise of sun. Freedom in all its majesty.
