Jack took a seat in the backyard of the safehouse, enjoying the sun and gazing up at the beautiful blue sky, pondering his existence and future.
“What’s going to happen to me, God? Am I going to be stuck here forever? How about my career as an aviator? I am so confused, God.”
Jack sat peacefully, feeling at ease for the first time in over six months. A warm sense of tranquility washed over him, as if someone was gently holding him.
Out of nowhere, a small blackbird flew in and perched on the patio table next to Jack. The bird chirped away, singing a song of peace. Jack listened intently, as if he could understand the words the bird was singing.
I am free to fly
Love belongs to me
Beauty fills the sky
All the day and night
🐦⬛🐦⬛🐦⬛
Come fly with me
Little Blackbird
Out to the sea
Little Blackbird
Blackbird, blackbird
Jack spoke to the bird, “ I would love to fly away with you floating through the peaceful blue skies, feeling free, feeling magical. But I can’t. I’m a prisoner. I am shackled. I can’t break loose. I am going crazy, little blackbird. I don’t know what to think anymore. My life is falling apart.” Jack broke into tears as the blackbird began singing again.
The blackbird lifted his wings and flew away while Jack sat with his face buried in his arms begging for help.
The Investigation
Several interesting patterns have developed in the first three days since the investigation started on Sheriff Sampson.
FBI Investigation Report
Date: Wednesday, October 6, 1982
Time: 11:45 AM – 4:11 PM
Prepared by: Special Agent Joe Tandy
Subject: Sheriff Sampson
At approximately 11:45 AM on the third day of the investigation, Sheriff Sampson’s vehicle was observed parked in the lot of a 7-Eleven within a five-minute walking distance of the designated safe house. The location is approximately 20 miles from Sampson’s residence and lies ten miles outside his jurisdiction, raising concerns regarding his presence in the area.
Special Agent Stevie Cole conducted surveillance from the 7-Eleven parking lot until Sheriff Sampson returned to his vehicle at 3:33 PM. Sampson was observed walking northbound on McKinley Avenue. His point of origin remains unknown. If he had been at the safe house, he would likely have approached via Magnolia Avenue, heading east. It is possible that he used an alternate route to conceal his movements. Special Agent Cole followed Sampson back to his home, at which he arrived at 4:11 PM.
During this time, I conducted surveillance at the safe house but did not observe Sheriff Sampson or any suspicious activity in the vicinity.
No unusual activity was reported from the residents of the safe house during this period.
Signed: Special Agent Joe Tandy

In the meantime, Special Agent Forbes focused on interviewing the last few people who had seen Angelita before her disappearance. One of them was Antoni Genovese, the taxi driver who dropped her off in the Pizza Shack parking lot. Genovese recalled that she spoke very little during the ride. The only thing he could remember her saying was that she planned to stay with a friend for a while to get her life back on track.
Forbes plans to follow up with Angelita’s family and friends in an effort to identify anyone she might know who lives near the Pizza Shack restaurant.
Additionally, Forbes has been investigating vehicle registration records for green Impalas in Orange and Riverside counties from 1979, the year Xochitl Jimenez disappeared. A total of 59 green Impalas have been registered in the two counties. Although no definitive leads have emerged yet, the investigation remains active.
The Night Bird
As night time came around and the sky grew dark Jack remained outside on the patio breathing in the cool night air. It was such an ethereal experience watching the glittering stars in the night sky. The crescent moon had a beautiful shimmering yellow glow that hypnotized Jack as he stared at it.
Like magic, a blackbird appeared in the starlit sky gracefully floating upon its celestial mystery singing a song of peace and love.
Come fly with me
Little black bird
Together we are one
Little blackbird
In the sky so high
Little blackbird
Blackbird
Blackbird
At that moment, Jack felt his body lift as the air current carried him toward the stars. His heart danced gently to the rhythm of the soulful bird song as he drifted, weightless, embraced by the ethereal breath of the heavens. In the boundless beauty of the endless sky, he found peace - complete and unbroken.
