Every morning in which Jake awoke, he lost his memory from the day before. The only time in which this did not occur was on New Year's Day. That fact alone was the reason why he used that day to write an entire journal of what he wished to accomplish that year.

In the early days, he was successful. Now all had become a lot more difficult as he strove to meet with someone named Nerissa Skuros.

Throughout the years, he had learned to keep a daily journal so that he could recall details that would otherwise be erased. He was thankful for a teenager named Katie for that idea. He had woken up in a high school football field one day. One of the staff members thought he was a student and escorted him to "Health Class" when he had muttered out the word "help" after being asked which class he needed to find.

Jake had attempted to blend in as he usually and instinctually did. Inside, his mind and body had been in turmoil. He only knew his name, his age, his birthday, and his skills. Everything else was a blur. He had glanced around the classroom when Katie gave him a 'psst' and handed him a notebook and a pencil.

"You're the new guy, right?" she whispered as the Health teacher, Mrs. McBride, began writing on a chalkboard. "It's okay. I forgot my supplies on the first day too."

Jake had taken the supplies and stared at them as though attempting to figure out what to do with such items. He set them on his desk before facing Katie again. "I don't think I belong here," he responded in a whisper.

She wrote in a notebook of her own, giving a peek toward the teacher to ensure that they weren't being watched. Then her peripheral glance found Jake. "That's okay. Just take notes. Or do what I do and pretend like you're writing notes." She lifted her pencil so that she could use it to point toward her opened notebook. "My journal. I write down everything that stands out for the day and then read it later. It makes even the littlest things matter."

It had been at that moment when Jake had placed his attention on the notebook and thought. Writing down everything that stood out for the day: he believed that he could do that. It could help him in moving forward and finding Nerissa at last. He didn't even know who she was. The only clue he had was a tattoo on the inside of his arm that read: 'Find Nerissa Skuros.'

So, since the day, Jake had written his daily activities in the journal. He ensured to leave it beside himself every night with a note that read: 'Read me for information.' It of course took longer and longer to read as the days went on, but he had always been thankful for New Year's because he read the entire notebook the day before and remembered its contents without having to start over the next day.

That meant only having to summarize the entire year in a new notebook so that he held on to the important details for the next three hundred and some-odd days. It was what he started to do now after awakening this morning on January 1st.

The one thing that frustrated him was that there had not been many noteworthy things to write. He hadn't gotten closer to his daily memory loss or why he had written that he was a lot older than he looked. He hadn't even—

Wait a minute. The second-to-last page of this former year's journal had a bit of information that instantly caught Jake's attention. He took a pen and instantly wrote it down in his new notebook:

'Nerissa Skuros will meet with you on January 5th in Central Park, New York.'
