Muriel’s Second Hand Book Emporium, Chapter 1: The Inheritance. First Place in Under Purple Clouds Challenge.
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. Only those who knew where to look saw them sway and weave and whirl to the quiet music of the night. Lavender and lilac, periwinkle and magenta, swirling and twirling. To the buzz of the cicadas, the chirp of the common nighthawk, the rush of bird wings, and the water lapping and tapping against the rocky banks of the meandering creek.

Ana's Home . Second Place in Under Purple Clouds Challenge.
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. Then came the azure flowers dotting the golden grass, springing up lushly around the brook of palest green. A few coral birds were added to wing gracefully over the meadow.

Periwinkle and Premonitions. Runner-Up in Under Purple Clouds Challenge.
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. It wasn’t much light, but for Annie, it was just enough. She walked quickly in the pale, plummy glow, going over and over the day before to find out where exactly she’d messed up. There was simply no reason for her to be working at midnight, and yet here she was, at the door of the bakery, at 12am sharp. She fumbled through her keys in the low light, yawning deeply.

Always On. Runner-Up in Under Purple Clouds Challenge.
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. I've seen that sight so often now, that it no longer attracts even the slightest glance, let alone inspires the awe it once did. In the Country that never sleeps, the grind is the only thing that matters.

Amethyst Experience. Runner-Up in Under Purple Clouds Challenge.
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. The spring marvel was one constant amidst the bedlam of life, scudding streaks across the crimson flush and lingering into early hours until dusk upped and melted them gone.

Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. Tonight, Vuela would dance too. She loved the way Mexico City came alive with the clouds – slowly, ponderously, like a child meeting her sibling for the first time. Electric lights flickered among a legion of flat rooftops that stretched across the grassy plains and toward the foothills of Popocatépetl. Tiny, scattered shapes – the Enlightened Ones – took to the skies with the advent of the Hora Morada. On starry nights, pinpricks of distant suns filtered through the clouds and spotted the slopes with hazy circles of illumination.

Blue Moon. Runner-Up in Under Purple Clouds Challenge.
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. The girls from the village were always asleep by then, having long since rushed back past the tall trees and whispering brush to return back to their warm kitchens, cool sheets, and closed shutters. Like good daughters, they heeded their mothers and at the first sign of dusk, began back with baskets slung around their elbows full of all sorts of roots and berries.
