Book Stats: Where the Crawdads Sing written by Delia Owens. Published on August 14, 2018.

I was in the library having just read the book recommended to me by the kind librarian. Let me tell you my opinion on it.

It is a captivating story that beautiful weaved together by the author. The protagonist is a young girl named kya  who lives in the marshes of North Carolina.

The story explores several themes; the first of which is loneliness and isolation which the author shows when she delves deep into the characters Kya's feelings when she is abandoned by her family and learns to survive and rely on herself but still craves human connection.

The second is the protection of nature to those who are disconnected   from society. This is seen when the author highlights the beauty and fragility of nature providing solace and refuge.

The third theme is resilience and survival which the author brilliantly showcases when her protagonist faces numerous challenges and carves a life for herself in the wilderness.

The fourth theme is relationships. The author explores the different bonds of human connection showing the complexity of these bonds which can both heal and destroy.

The last main theme that the author touches is prejudice which the author shows when her protagonist is faces discrimination and judgement from the town's people who view her as a poor outsider due to her unconventional lifestyle.

I must say that the addition of the dual timeline in the story made it more interesting, it gave the story the element of suspense, mystery and intrigue. Kya's growing-up story in the 1950's and a murder investigation in the 1960's, this alternating stories adds complexity to the storyline as past and present events intertwine to reveal the full scope of Kya's story.

If we speak about the writing style I will say that it is immersive and sensory that draws the reader into the story. The lyrical prose create a dreamlike quality that enhances the story's themes of lonelines, isolation and resilience.

With words Owens paints a vivid setting showing the mysterious and haunting world of marsh, where we see Kya growing up and evolving through out the story.

The reader is able to savor the quiet rhythms of Kya's isolated existence, the beauty of the marshes and all this is possible because the narrative unfolds at a leisure pace.

The vivid imagery combined with lyrical prose and evocative descriptions sheds light on the author's background as a wildlife scientist. This serves as a rich atmospheric backdrop for the story making everthing seem more real.

Overall, I can say that this is a poignant and heart wrenching story that is richly layered delving into the complexities of human nature and the power of resilience in the face of adversity.

This is the story that will stay with you for a long time even after you finish it. Especially because it is emotionally resonant capturing the essence of both the natural world and the human experience with stunning clarity and beauty.

I would definitely recommend it as a coming-of-age story. Have you read it?

Turning my gaze to the clock hanging on the wall I saw that a significant amount of time as passed. It is time I head home and get ready to head to the campus.

Placing the book back, I waved the librarian goodbye before walking back home. It was still early in the morning as I saw the dew drops still on the grass. The gentle blowing wind was energizing and I skipped back home.

Have a good bright day.
