Did you know that everyone has a different shape to their face? There are six face shapes - oval, rectangle, round, square, heart, and diamond. With an accurate analysis, you can figure out what the shape of your face is.

Why would you want to know your face shape?

Because there are certain hairstyles and accessories that look best with each face shape. If you want to bring out the best version of yourself, you're in the right place. This article details the features of a square-shaped face.

Think you have a square face shape? First, read the Vocal article, "How to Determine Your Face Shape" for the three steps you can take to know for sure.

Once you have determined that your face shape is square, read on to learn which hairstyles and accessories are most flattering. Below you can review the traits of a square face shape.

Hairstyles For Square Faces

Square faces tend to have a more defined forehead, so side-swept bangs are a great style to try. Loose, tousled bobs are also great because they soften your face.

Any hairstyle that falls below the shoulders will help create length, and you can try going for an off-center part to give the illusion of a rounder face. This is helpful since a square face has a strong, angular jawline.

Glasses For Square Faces

When you have a square face, you want to wear round/circular or oval frames to soften your strong jawline. The gently rounded shape just above the cheekbones and the temples will also help to soften up the features of the face.

Avoid angular frames, as they accentuate your sharp features, rather than have a complementary effect on your face shape. This goes for eyeglasses and sunglasses.

Hats For Square Faces

For a square face shape, the goal is to wear hats that soften your angles and add the illusion of length to the face. Hats such as fedoras clash with your strong jaw.

To balance the angular width of your jaw, forehead, and cheekbones, go for a floppy hat with a long, soft brim. Beanies and berets also soften your angular features, especially the slouchy fits that show your hair toward the front of your face.

Jewelry For Square Faces

When it comes to wearing jewelry with a square-shaped face, think soft & simple. Choose necklaces and earrings that have delicate designs and edges. Don't go too bulky with either, as this can make your angular features look even stronger.

Long necklaces and dangly earrings will also add a bit of length, which will help give your face a more balanced look. Wear chains that are on the thinner side, with a very simple design. No extra embellishments are needed, and are in fact, not recommended.

Square Face Shape Review

A square face has very strong features, and the goal is to lengthen and soften it. Choose a hairstyle that falls below the shoulders and softens with loose waves and side-swept bangs.

Avoid accessories that have strong angles and edges. Instead, focus on rounded, delicate, and circular designs. Longer chain necklaces and dangly earrings will add length to the face and neck, creating a better balance.
