Find Your perfect Foundation Shade
Beauty inspired
Matching your foundation shade is by far one of the most annoying parts of your makeup routine, especially when your buying online. So to help I’ve collected some note worthy tips to keep in mind when finding your perfect shade:
Step 1: Knowing your Undertone
The undertone to your skin is going to play an important role in discovering your perfect shade. Generally, people fall into three categories concerning undertone:
- Cool: your skin is more red, pink or blue
- Warm: your skin is more golden, peach or yellow
- Neutral: your skin has a mixture of both warm and cool undertones
In order to figure out which undertone you have try these guides:
• Hair & Eye colour: naturally black, brown or blonde hair combined with green, grey or blue eyes is an indication of having a cool undertone. Wheras, hazel, brown or amber eyes combined with naturally black, auburn or strawberry blonde hair indicates a warm undertone.
•Sun exposure: People who have cool undertones will tend to turn pink or burn easier in the sun. However, people with warm undertones will bronze or tan while in the sun
• Vein Check: Those with cooler undertones tend to have blue looking veins on their inner wrist, while those with warm undertones will have green looking veins. If you have neutral undertone a mix of blue and green veins will be an indicator for this.
STEP 2: Shades
Many brands nowadays have a wide range of variety of shades to suit everybody’s skin. The best way to start your search is to narrow down the options: are you fair, light, medium, deep or dark?
From here select the shade which contains your undertone, all brands will label the shade and include which undertone they suit.
EXTRAS:
1. Cut back on time and look for these labels:
• Cool undertone: tan, shell, fawn beige OR look for ‘C’ and a slightly pinker look in the bottle
• Warm undertone: golden, honey, warm beige OR look for ‘W’ and a slightly more yellow look in the bottle
• Neutral Undertone: look for the ‘N’ and look for shades that appear in the middle of the pink-yellow spectrum
2. Want to try a new brand but don’t want the hassle of trying to find your shade?
• If you’ve been lucky and you’ve managed to find your perfect shade in one foundation most online cites offer a comparison feature which means you can put in your perfect shade and the brand it’s from and have then generate your shade matches for you!
BE AWARE: they might not always be the best matches as all foundations are different!!
And that’s my guide on how to find your perfect colour match for your foundation,
Keeping it cool,
Cat :)
