We commend you if you haven't yet been lured into a blackhole of Microblading eyebrows before and after Insta stalking.

Because, if you're anything like us, your brows have suffered at the hands of the noughties and Christina Aguilera-esque tadpoles (see out the eyebrow blunders to avoid here), a microblading fixation is practically unavoidable.

Microblading, the semi-permanent key to faking larger brows that look fully natural, could be the hassle-free alternative to spending hours pencilling in your brows only to get the shape so completely incorrect.

Do you have any questions regarding what we're talking about? We dispatched Digital Beauty Editor George Driver to Suman Jalaf of SumanBrows Beauty Atelier, a microblading expert and brow miracle worker, to get the scoop...

Microblading: Everything You Need to Know

What is microblading and how does it work?

'Microblading is a brow-architectural technique. It's all about finding the optimal form for each face – a completely personalised approach for each client,' Jalaf explains.

'The operation is highly exact because to the equipment that is used, which is practically a pen with a slanted blade and 10-12 small needles at the end - needles that do not enter the skin but gently scratch the surface, similar to a paper cut.

'The needle creates delicate, realistic, and natural hair strokes by implanting featherweight strokes with a medical grade pigment on the epidermal layer of the skin.'

Before and After Microblading Eyebrows

What's the difference between microblading and getting your brows tattooed?

'Unlike tattooing, microblading takes place on the surface of the skin rather than in the deeper layers. This is also not a long-term solution; the colour disappears after 18 months.

'Because a handheld needle/blade is utilised, the hair strokes are significantly more natural and finer than any tattoo — there is no electrical device that pervades deep with this process.' As a result, rather than the buzz of a tattoo gun piercing the skin so deeply, there is more of a scratching sounds.'

Her brows were microbladed right after she had them done (much happier).

What is the difference between microshading and microblading?

Yes, the terms may sound confusingly similar, but trust us when we say that microblading and microshading are completely different.

There are a few minor but significant differences between these two types of semi-permanent eyebrow make-up in portland. Microshading offers a considerably softer finish than microblading, which has an extremely exact, individual hair effect. Consider the difference between a brow pencil and a brow powder or pomade.

Microshading tattoos small dots throughout your brows for a less defined finish, and microblading tattoos hair-like strokes in your existing brows.

Are you undecided about which strategy is best for you? Don't worry; many technicians combine the two processes to achieve the most realistic and natural result.

Is it possible to be allergic to microblading?

'Some people are sensitive to and allergic to certain colours, although this is exceedingly rare in my experience.' Prior to therapy, I will always undertake a patch or scratch test to ensure you are not allergic.'

What is the price of microblading?

'The cost of a Suman microblading procedure is £500. This covers an initial consultation, as well as a follow-up therapy after 6-8 weeks.'

When you get your brows microbladed, what exactly happens?

1. 'I thread the hairs, clean up the region, and prepare it for the treatment by shaping the brow area.'

2. 'Numbing – using a topical ointment, this takes 40 minutes. I'll show the client colour swatches and we'll debate the appropriate hue for their desired look while this is performing its numbing magic.'

I'll start measuring the region surrounding the brows with my tools 10 minutes before the numbing cream starts working, taking into account face shape, symmetry, facial features, and so on.'
