"Foundations" of beauty....

Basic Beauty 101

Ever wondered how all those amazing time lapse videos are actually executed? I get asked that question more times than I have money in the bank. Well, I'm here to help you along your journey!

It's not actually about what fancy products you have. It's not about name brands, or high-end luxury items. I know that's what the influencers want you to believe, but not the case, my friend. My aim in this world is to help every day women achieve their best faces with their budgets. Instead of having you spend a ton on money on new products, I'd rather see you use what you have and build upon that.

However... Yes, there is a but... But you need to have one thing, and that one thing is pretty damned important...

First and mainly the only important thing in my mind... Brushes. To achieve any look you will need a good set of brushes. Now where you get those brushes - that's depending on your need, and budget. So, whether you want to hit up Walmart (which has some great brushes) or you want to go directly to Morphe and splurge, that's totally your call. Personally, if you're starting off, there's no need to invest just yet. Wait and see what works for you and what you want to do with them before making any large investment.

I would recommend some staples to begin with: a flat brush—or any brush that isn't round or done shape. This is where you can even use an eyeshadow sponge.

OK. Second brush. Short hairs and thinly shaped. An angle brush is also a great second brush. This can be used for eyebrows or eye liners.

Third brush. This one you want to be dense. Round or dome-shaped is best. This is a placement brush. Meaning you will pick up colour and place it with this brush. This is NOT a blending brush. This is solely for placement of colour/pigment. This is also known as a crease brush. Because for some eyes, this is where we place the most amount of colour.

Now. Fourth place. Fluffy blending brush. Also dome or rounded shape. Also can be a tapered fluffy brush. But this is used solely for blending of colours. This brush is used in a windshield wiper motion. And remember, we also blend up and away.

There are many types of brushes you can add to your collection. These are going to be the foundation brushes. Or again, the basics to start you off.

What to look for in terms of hair... if you aren't using anything liquid, it's your choice. Natural hairs will shed, and synthetic tend to be easier to clean and theoretically last longer. I, myself, tend to go with bamboo based brushes or Eco tool brushes. Synthetic is best for liquids or creams, such as liquid foundations or cream blushes or cream face pigments.

If you rather the look of a paint brush for your foundation, I would invest in a good set of synthetic brushes. That way you are guaranteed that your brushes will stand up to the products, and as long as you clean them properly, they will last you a helluva long time! We're talking years here... So again, it's all depending on you and what you want to do with them.

So that's the foundation of beauty. Literally! Without these, you won't get that fancy look you're going for!

Stay tuned for more tips and tricks, dolls!
