There are only two things in this life that I am sure of: beauty and taxes.

At around 3 am, my credit card becomes scared for its life.

The demons of my poor shopping addiction slither around from my PNC account card to the glowing laptop on my bed. Throughout the night, they continuously encourage me to click on the "add to cart" button. I am no match for every cute top or accessory that I lay eyes upon, and I know a reckless purchase is imminent.

If a package ends up on my doorstep every other day for a week, the delivery man shakes his head. My embarrassment is shared amongst the community, and I return to my cave.

Window shopping during the pandemic has become a dangerous game. Deciding whether or not a purchase is worth it to me has become increasingly difficult, since all the items I want are rationalized as things that I'd love to own. Drowsiness amidst my shopping trips doesnt help either. In fact, it makes it worse!

The common denominator of all my shopping behavior is that it takes place in those delirious hours of early morning. When I am too tired to really think about what I'm doing, a new purse arrives in 3-5 business days.

Instagram has definitely catered its ads to my liking, because there is no doubt that the algorithm is successfully doing its job on a sucker like me. When I do have cash to spare, I end up getting stuck on social media for hours. Those hours consist of browsing through videos of Amazon finds, or scrolling through the Instagram business tab to find some products I haven't tried yet.

For months, I have been bombarded with the same 3 ads on Instagram that finally caught my attention enough to purchase. These companies are: Function of Beauty, Doe Lashes, and not pot. Each of those listed sell beauty related products and sport a few common themes.

Their ads include pastel aesthetics, minimalist art, semi-cheap pricing, and enticingly cute packaging. Unfortunately, they lured me in with the combination of these traits. When I made the jump, got them delivered, and tried these out...I was very impressed!

Normally, I get a good handful of duds or moderately successful products. But when I got my shampoos, lashes, and gummies, I felt like they actually benefitted my routine. So without further ado, let me introduce my list of Instagram ads that led me astray from the world of budgeting.

What I Purchased from Instagram Ads:

1. Function of Beauty 💅🏼

-Hair, skin, and body care products that are customized to you

What I purchased: 8 oz custom shampoo in Eucalyptus scent, with green coloring

For this product, I went with the classic shampoo and conditioner combo. To begin, I had to take a hair quiz in order to find the right ingredients that were crafted for my hair type. Once this was done, I got to pick out a color and scent along with a subscription for around $35-40.

The Hair Quiz: Step 1

The free shipping and included stickers with your purchase sealed the deal for me, so I decided to give it a shot. My hair type is thick, long, and straight. Knowing this, I had experienced many failed attempts with other high end brands of shampoos that guaranteed to tame my frizz and knots.

When I first received my choice of the Eucalyptus scented set, I was pleasantly suprised at the size for the regular option. My shampoo and conditioner have lasted me months now, and it has made my hair ridiculously soft. This was a new feeling for me, as my hair has never been like this before. I am always skeptical of hair care, but Function of Beauty really hit the mark here.

So....I give this product 5/5 stars ⭐️

2. Doe Lashes

-Lightweight lashes with cloud-like comfort

What I purchased: Lash set in "Cloud 9" style

Just like Function of Beauty, Doe Lashes had the option for buyers to take a personalized quiz for their lash style. They ask questions about how often you go out with lashes, the type of eyelids you have, eyelash length, and so forth. These questions are there to guide you in choosing a more glam look or subtle flare for your lash preference.

For my quiz results, I went the route of subtle lashes for a more toned down appearance. The lashes were extremely comfortable to wear, and pretty easy to apply. What I wasnt expecting was how cheap they actually were, since some of the lashes I have seen at Sephora can get as high as $40. For one pair, you're looking at spending around $13.

Examples of their Lash Options

Even though I don't wear lashes too often in quarantine, they look stunning! I was able to wear them all day and not feel a thing. Tik tok influencers have hyping these up for a bit now, and I had to give in to see for myself. Luckily, I made a good purchase! I give my lashes a 4/5 stars ⭐️

3. not pot

-cbd products for beauty, pets, and relaxation

What I purchased: 1 bottle of blueberry CBD gummies

For all those with anxiety, chronic pain, and sleep troubles, I recommend trying out the not pot gummies. Their products range from beauty oil, pet oil, bath soaks, and the original gummies. Flavors of their gummies include strawberry or blueberry, which has added melatonin to take before bedtime.

Their gummies contain 20 mg of CBD without THC, and 3 mg of melatonin if you purchase the blueberry flavor. All of their products are vegan with no artificial ingredients, which is always a plus if you are looking for something gentle. When I tested this out, it was calming but not overpowering. It is a lower dose of CBD for me so I didn't feel any drastic effects, but it did the job! Sooner or later, I was able to break out of an anxious insomnia episode and drift off to sleep. While I haven't tried their other products, I enjoyed this late night purchase for those nights I tossed and turned.

I give these gummies a 3.5/5 stars! ⭐️
