It may be the thick of winter in most of the USA but everyone wants that Miami summer glow.

If one cosmetic line defines loving oneself and radiating confidence, it is LadyCode. It was founded by celebrity make-up artist Lisa Opie who set out to create a line of product that was different from the hundreds of others collections sold online and at store counters. “In my job, I was constantly packing up my make-up kit with so many different palettes and products, but only using a few of them. I decided to take the shades I used the most and put them in one easy-to-carry palette,” she explains.

She named it ‘Snatched’ and it remains the brand’s best-selling palette. ‘Snatched’ features six shades with pigments that can be used for highlight, blush, eyeshadow, contour, bronzer, and color corrector, all in one. It is travel friendly, works on all skin tones and types, and includes a mirror.

Another popular palette is “Influencer.” It contains a rainbow of colors from safe neutrals to resplendent pastels.

“Makeup is such a fun way to add a little glitz and glam to your life,” Opie contends. “It’s an amazing way to express yourself and try new things.”

This winter, she is partnering with beauty influencer Brandi Pope, AKA the Glam Belle on a “Beauty and the Beach” eyeshadow palette. The limited-edition palette includes 18-shades with 7 high pigment mattes and 11 shimmers that deliver endless possibilities of dreamy, glam looks for the season. It is available now for $39 on her website.

She encourages her customers to be bold in their looks, because, after all, “make-up washes off at the end of the day.”

LadyCode began in 2014 in Miami as a women’s wellness resource that featured lifestyle, fashion, health, and beauty news, as well as travel tips and reviews. In 2016, a YouTube channel, with Opie delivering makeup tutorials, was added. It quickly grew to 45,000 subscribers, prompting her to add a shop section to the site. At first, the shop concentrated on a small offering of wigs and lashes. It has since grown into the successful full-ranging cosmetics line it is today.

Women’s empowerment is a dominant motivation behind the LadyCode brand, however, in recent years, the company has grown more inclusive, with products made for and used by anyone and everyone who loves glam. “We take a lot of time and care to make sure that our products are perfect for all ages, races, and genders,” Lisa Opie explains. “Our customers are adventurous and live limitlessly. I think the perfect example of how much confidence makeup can provide a person is through drag.”

She questions, “have you ever met a drag queen that’s not confident?”

Opie believes Miami women carry that confidence; and it is a big reason of why she chose to headquarter her brand in the city. “Miami ladies are intrepid. Whether their beauty is natural or over-the-top, it always appears effortless. My brand reflects that fully and so we have easy natural glam products as well as options for full glam with over the top, eye catching looks.”

Opie, herself, is often portrayed on social media with ultra-glam stylings, but in real-life, she often embraces a low-key, casual side. On a typical day, she arrives to her office in a tracksuit or an oversized hoodie with sweatpants. “I get glammed up when I need to, for photoshoots, filming, and events,” she says, admitting, “I spend most of my time in a Juicy tracksuit.”

At the LadyCode offices, she employs a small team that takes care of online orders, marketing, accounting, and social media. It is a fun and laidback atmosphere, where staff workshop product ideas and negotiate collaborations with other social influencers.

Lisa Opie frequently collaborates with influencers including Ariel Versace and Miss USA and Miss Universe titleholders. “I don’t view other make-up influencers as competitors, but as potential partners. I enjoy working with other influencers who share my goals of glamming up the world.”

She maintains that in 2023, her main mission will be to stay focused on her goals and carry on with her legit lady boss attitude. “My only competition is myself,” she says.
