Full Super-Moon in Scorpio April 27 2021

Our last Astrology & Skincare event earlier this month was the Aries New Moon. I began this series with that transit and I hope you enjoyed it! If you have never read my blogs before (or only read the blogs I wrote under my pen name!) you can read the first blog for my 'Mooncare' series, and also find out more about my love for The Body Shop and what their mission is by clicking the link below:

April and May Supermoons

We have three consecutive supermoons this spring. The full moon in Scorpio on April 27 2021 is the first. A supermoon is classified due to it's perigee, otherwise known as the closest distance it will come to Earth. The tides are expected to be high during this time, and even Miami Florida is reportedly on the watch for flooding. The gravitational pull the moon has on our oceans is at it's greatest during it's two week transition into a full moon. Even more so when it's a supermoon. And we will see three in a row!

Scorpio

'The Scorpion, AKA Scorpius in latin

The constellation for the scorpion is called Scorpius in Latin, and Scorpio in English. Located near the center of our Milky Way, it is associated with the Greek myth of Orion. First catalogued by Greek astronomer, Ptolemy during the 2nd century, Scorpio, or Scorpius, is one of the oldest known constellations we recognize. It's symbol actually predates the Greeks. The symbol meant GIR-TAB (the Scorpion) to the Sumerians over 5,000 years ago.

It is a nocturnal arachnid that finds comfort during the day in burrows and cracks away from the direct sun in tropical and subtropical climates. They have a bad reputation, but it is known that far less than half of the scorpion species discovered even have the ability to kill a human. The most poisonous scorpions can be found in Africa, India and the Middle East, South America, and Mexico. The UK is reportedly a newer climate for a species of scorpion that has adapted to less tropical climates. A spider-like creature closely related to spiders, mites and ticks, the scorpion has a set of front pinchers, eight legs and is easily recognized by its long tail which has a sharp, poisonous barb at the very end. This nifty hunting and self-defense tool is used to deliver crippling, fatal wounds. As a predatory arachnid, scorpions tend to hunt at night and enjoys a diet of other scorpions, rodents, young snakes, snails, insect eggs and whatever other small insects it can get its claws on.

People tend to like the scorpion as a pet due to it's seemingly calm demeanor and hardy constitution. They are independent and don't go out of their way to attack a human unless they feel extremely threatened. In the wild they will find a burrowing spot in shoes or clothes. To avoid the sting from a startled scorpion, shaking out all clothing and shoes before wearing them will dislodge a sleeping scorpion who thought they had found peaceful refuge after a long night of hunting!

Scorpions actually can't see that well and like so many spiders, they have tiny sensory hairs on at least four of their legs that detect vibrations as far as a foot away. Did I mention that they can live for a year on a single meal? Scorpions are the hardy survivalists that nature intended! Scientists in the 1960s discovered the scorpion has a natural resistance to radiation. They tend to like their food alive, will dig out mice and other prey, and can take hours to digest their meals. After first using their tails to stun and paralyze, a set of mandibles near their mouths help them rip apart prey so they can suck in all that juicy goodness that will give them much needed nutrients and help them stay hydrated...just in case a nuclear fallout happens! With an efficient food storage organ and a low metabolism rate, the scorpion can go long periods of time with no available food or water. This natural mechanism helps them survive the high heat of their tropical environments or the below freezing nights in the desert. Under ultraviolet light, a scorpion glows a nice blue-green due to a chemical compound in their glands. How cool is this little soldier?

Scorpio Full Moon Hydration

While the moon is spending two weeks in it's waxing phase, this is the time to spend hydrating and moisturizing your skin!

British Rose Gel Toner

The natural element of the zodiac sign for Scorpio is water and one of the things it symbolizes is regeneration. This is perfect considering the full moon has such a powerful impact on our tides. The scorpion itself was made for holding hydration for the stressful times without! Scorpio's two ruling planets, Mars and Pluto, are characteristic of war and the underworld. This full moon promises to lack any and all barriers in unleashing pent up frustrations and floods of emotion! Quite unlike new moons, full moons are more extroverted. So shore up your beauty supplies and do a hydrating face mask...before you go crazy! We only have a couple days of this full moon...but the effects are forecasted to be strong! The two weeks of drought that follows is quite like that nuclear fallout I was talking about the scorpions surviving. Let's learn from them. Directly after the Scorpio Full Moon, on April 29th, the moon begins its waning phase that will last for two weeks. During this time it will transit through the fall, winter and spring signs of Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces, to name a few. While the transit back into the new moon goes on, why not grab fresh supplies like the British Rose Plumping Mask, Aloe Sheet Mask, and Vitamin E Aqua Boost Essence Lotion? Best skincare advice I can give for the full moons we have coming is all about HYDRATION.

Vitamin E Hydration Gel Mist

Why not take advantage and get your skin dewy? Leave the powders off your make-up routine for Scorpio Full Moon and see how wearing just a foundation works. Or just use some moisturizer with a Coconut Bronzer for a fresh, sun-kissed glow. A great product I've been dying to try (which I will over the summer for the next two supermoons!) is Drops of Light from The Body Shop! It is not available from the US Independent Consultants online stores, so I have to order directly from the UK site. The Drops of Light range will definitely be the perfect full moon beauty night with a cleanser, day cream, liquid peel, and serum to help illuminate dull skin. Gotta get some!

Drops of Light

We are never too late to grab some great skincare products from The Body Shop At Home. The second supermoon happens May 26th 2021 and the zodiac sign Sagittarius will be in charge of that energy! Sagittarius likes to enjoy the fruits from summers labor and all that was harvested. So Scorpio Full Moon is a great night to get our skin balanced for the summer nights of actual fun and celebrations! Scorpio Full Moon will seem like a lesson learned and feel like the rough harvest season was survived. One great thing to note about our three supermoons is that only the first one will be thought of as rough. Sagittarius wants to keep the party going with our third supermoon on June 24th 2021 as well! See? We aren't late to get our skin hydrated for these important astrological events that we're going to use to get our skincare routines under control after all!

Our next new moon on May 11th 2021 will be in Taurus! The Taurus New Moon is being ruled by Venus. So whatever happens during and after the Scorpio Full Moon, I'm sure her down-to-Earth level head will be fixing...with love!
