“Add to Cart”: The Latest Symptom of COVID-19
Because good hair should feel infectious.
Fever
Chills
Cough
Shortness of breath (out of breath, unable to breathe deeply)
Lost sense of taste or smell
Add to cart.
What do these all have in common? That’s right. COVID-19.
If you’ve experienced the last symptom, don’t worry; you are not alone. I have succumbed many times to the wiles of Amazon Prime and impulse buys from Instagram ads. Today, I am here to tell you about one purchase I found particularly infectious.
Folks with curly hair experience significant struggles with taming their locks. Our hair has a mind of its own and will defy straightening irons, the weather, even gravity. My own hair has a propensity for oiliness, and mixed with the winter winds, this makes for over washed hair and too many dead ends.
Then one day, a light fought its way through the clouds of my hair-related misery and shone upon an advertisement lurking in my Instagram feed.
The key to fresh, naturally glamourous hair was hidden within personalized formulas for shampoos, conditioners, and hair masks. All I had to do to unlock it was a 5-minute quiz.
Step 1 requires a little introspection regarding your hair type. If in doubt, they provide excellent diagrams and explanations to help you figure out your hair type, structure, and whether your scalp is dry/oily/normal.
Step 2 asks you to identify up to 5 hair goals. As you can see, my priorities revolve around curl definition, oil control, and helping to avoid split ends. Since my hair is purple and takes forever to grow, I added colour protection and lengthen for good measure.
Step 3 might be the hardest of them all; you must pick your signature scent. In addition, you control the power of your chosen fragrance. This is super useful as I work in healthcare and have to be mindful of the strength of scents I use. Which one did I pick? Read on to find out.
The second part of step 3 is to see how your final product will look like. The cool part? You can name your products anything you would prefer, ensuring it is truly one of a kind.
Finally, step 4 asks you to choose payment and delivery packages. Some folks find it helpful to subscribe to packages every 3 months, others would simply like to try one set at a time and decide later. The choice is yours, and the flexibility made me feel as though I didn't have anything to lose by trying this brand out.
To be perfectly honest with you, I squealed like a 5-year-old on Christmas Day when my box arrived 1 week later. I caved and invested in the hair mask, which I use twice monthly.
The smell of fresh, sweet peaches greeted me as I opened the box. I closed my eyes and imagined myself in a tropical paradise. The child within me immediately went for the stickers and I spent a good 30 minutes deciding where to place the stickers on my bottles to create the full function of lenni experience.
How excited was I to try this vegan, cruelty-free, sulfate- and paraben-free, sustainability-focused, and customized set of hair products? On a scale of 1 to 10, I was a proper 15.
After just a few weeks of using my new products, evening my hair stylist noticed a difference. Most importantly, I can keep my signature purple locks that entertain my pediatric patients and adults alike.
Not everything about the pandemic must be negative. If you succumbed to add-to-cart-itis and have some disposable income, I recommend trying Function of beauty for your hair care needs. They have over 76 000 customer reviews with an average rating of 4.7/5 stars!
