As a 90s kid, my nostalgic memories include The Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Beavis & Butthead & MTV. The 1990s had edge, great TV shows, but the best thing about the 1990s was the different hair styles that transformed the 1990s. How many people are still talking about The Rachel hairstyle that Jennfier Anniston wore in Friends? My favorite hairstyle from the 1990s are the box braids that Janet Jackson wore in the movie Poetic Justice. Finally, how can we forget about the Feathered Bangs that Kelly Kapowski wore in Saved By the Bell? Get ready and buckle up because I am about to take you down memory lane with all of the hair styles that become iconic in the 1990s and beyond.

The “Heartthrob”

This was one of the sexiest hairstyles in the 1990s. Nothing says “heartthrob” better that when talking about the 1990s and who better to rep the “heartthrob” hairstyle than Leonardo DiCaprio. The hairstyle gave a sexy yet chill appeal to men in the 1990s. The hairstyle basically resembled a bob haircut but slightly longer and flowy. The hairstyle gave a “bad boy” mixed with “sex appeal” look that many has such a huge and iconic influence that it has brought a comeback. Such stars like Cole Sprouse, Harry Styles and Timothee Chalamet have styled their hair.

The “High PonyTail”

This is one of my favorite hairstyles and it definitely is one that has made a comeback. While the ponytail has been around for decades, the high ponytail was a gamechanger and one that became iconic from the Pop Queen herself, Madonna. The “high ponytail” hairstyle is simple; just put your hair in a ponytail high on your head. It resembles a genie and it screams sex appeal. Some of the notable celebrities who have donned this hairstyle are: Hailey Baldwin-Bieber, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, etc.

The “Hi-Top”

So, if you are not familiar with this, it is basically when men have a clean cut on the top of their hair that is tall and spiked while the sides of the hair are cut off. The best example and most popular example is from the movie House Party with “Kid n Play”.

The “Double Bun”

This hairstyle is one of my favorites. The “double bun” is when you put pieces of your hair into two buns. What makes this hairstyle amazing? You can style the buns in multiple ways. One of the best examples of this is Brandy. Brandy was known for wearing braids in the 1990s and one of her hairstyles in her music video Baby, Baby, she wore double buns with her braids. Britney Spears also wore the double buns hairstyle as well. The hairstyle has since made a comeback with such celebrities like Ariana Grande, Cardi B, and Kendall Jenner wearing it.

Conclusion

Out of all the decades, the 1990s have made a comeback in the strongest way. The hairstyles of the 1990s have become so popular, that even Generation Z has started to be influenced by the vintage hairstyles. Something about the 1990s and hair just gives good chemistry. One of the reasons why I think that I think 1990s hairstyles are popular is because of iconic shows and movies from the 1990s making a comeback. With Friends, Moesha, Saved By the Bell and Clueless, we are seeing people wanting to be back to these nostalgic times and embrace the fashion trends and styles that come with it. It seems that the 1990s have came back and based on the way people are embracing the 1990s, I think that the trends and the hair are here to stay.
