You Are Wasting No Time Listening to Wasting Moonlight
Seriously, you won't regret it.
Wasting Moonlight is a band who plays music that will bring you back into your early 2000s emo days where we were the happiest. The sub-genre defying band gives us the nostalgic feel that we have been waiting for. With their most recent music video release of their single, “No Surprise”, Wasting Moonlight is able to catch our attention and bring us back to bands filming themselves in their garage or their living room, and we are just waiting for the day they play the same venues as Blink 182, so we can look back at the music video and think; “Wow, we were there when they first started out.”
1. How did you guys start as a band/all meet each other?
Brandon - Luc and I have known each other since middle school and making music together for almost ten years now. We have been wanting to form a band like this for years. Early last year we came up with the idea of Wasting Moonlight, recorded a couple tracks to try to attract band-mates and it worked because that is how we got Joey on board. Luc and I have both also known him for years. Dom and I have played in bands together in the past. I have been asking him to play with us for years and it just came down now to the timing being right.
2. How did you come up with the name “Wasting Moonlight?”
Wasting Moonlight is a metaphor for depression I came up with. It is referring to the hours on end at night it keeps you up, unable to sleep, just alone with your thoughts, wasting time. Most of what I write is fueled by depression and I wanted a name that would reflect that.
3. If you had to pick one album to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Brandon- Honor Among Thieves, Edwin McCain
Luc- Underdog Alma Mater, Forever The Sickest Kids
Joe- Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, D.R.U.G.S.
Dom- The Night God Slept, Silent Planet
4. What does your music making process look like?
Brandon- Typically whoever has an idea for a song will show it to the rest of us, we'll come up with the instrumentation first and then I write a majority of the lyrics.
Dom- Everyone makes a bunch of nonsensical noises for the drums and I do my best to mimic it.
5. What are each of your go-to karaoke songs?
Brandon- Silently sitting in the back coaxing all my drunken buddies to do karaoke
Luc- "Panini," Lil Nas X
Joe- "Savior," Rise Against
Dom- "Ohio Is For Lovers," Hawthorne Heights
6. What inspired the music video and SFX makeup for “No Surprise?”
Brandon- The idea for the SFX makeup was Joey's. The song at its core is about dealing with personal demons and blaming yourself. A lot of the lyrics express this through the feeling of being beaten down which is where he pulled the idea from.
7. Do you have any non-musical influences for your music?
Luc- Baby Yoda
Joe- Dank memes
8. What is your dream band to tour with?
Brandon- Seether
Luc- Young The Giant / Paramore
Dom- Blink 182 / Vanessa Carlton
Joe- Dance Gavin Dance
9. What can we expect from your upcoming debut album?
Brandon- A lot of anger
Luc- Music that's got heart
Joe- Sick riffs and depressed lyrics
10. What’s your dream collaboration?
Brandon- This is a more challenging question for us than it probably should be. I think since we are still pretty new and experimenting with sounds it's tough to say who we would want to collaborate with. Joey had mentioned in the past being interested in collaborating with someone electronic like deadmau5. Something completely different from what we play to bring an extra flavor to the mix.
Stay tuned for everything Wasting Moonlight has in store for you!
