‘You’

“What would you do for love? For a brilliant male bookstore manager who crosses paths with an aspiring female writer, this question is put to the test. A charming yet awkward crush becomes something even more sinister when the writer becomes the manager’s obsession. Using social media and the internet, he uses every tool at his disposal to become close to her, even going so far as to remove any obstacle –including people — that stands in his way of getting to her.“

If you’ve ever fancied having your own stalker (or learning how to be a stalker) then this show really is for you.

It’s packed full of beautiful people and has a very dark and very twisted storyline. However, every now and then there is also a shot of humour thrown in for good measure.

I managed to watch 5 episodes of Season One in a row so it really is addictive and very easy to watch. Once I had completed Season One I was so excited that there was to be a second season but of course I had to wait a full year!

Season Two was released to Netflix on 26th December and I am working my way through it as we speak!

THE SONGS

As you might expect the songs featured are also a little on the ‘dark’ side but sometimes that’s just what we need, right?

There is a really great cover version of ‘I Want You to Want Me‘ which is used in the trailer as the theme song and it really sets the mood and tone for the whole season.

One of my favourite songs ever is included in Season One - 'Everybody Hurts' by R.E.M.

Season Two is shaping up to be just as awesome not only as far as the story unfolds but also the songs included in the episodes.

A new song I've been introduced to is 'Higher' by Reem.

There's also some older familiar tunes such as 'Kiss Me' by Sixpence None The Richer. It was nice to hear this being used.

ROTTEN TOMATO REVIEWS

"A very addictive thriller that will undoubtedly give us a sinister view of these parties and, at the same time, makes us question whether we have ever been Joe."

"The modern version of a Hitchcock character is enough to pull us slowly into a tornado of lies and deceipt."

"It is pulpy and trashy enough to make it easy to watch despite some eye-rolling plot developments, but with just enough satire - about social media and modern romance - to prod the binge viewers into some reflection."

"You is very, very good. It's been called "bonkers" but you can take that in a good way."

"This is the anti-Fifty Shades of Gray... It made me feel repulsed. I loved it."

"A twisty psychological chiller that plays with perceptions of who the heroes and villains are, and comes with plenty of moral dilemmas."

"Badgley is still immensely watchable as Joe, who has the heart of a rom-com hero and the mind/lack of impulse control of a creepy stalker. The actor juggles the dual duties of on-screen performance and voiceover narration with unrelenting charm."

"The stakes have been raised, the body count is higher and you soon become as obsessed with this story as Joe is with love. We are starting to feel a lot less guilty about this particular guilty pleasure."
