Hi all!

Welcome back to Tunes to Get Grooving To! Before I dig into the music of this week, I have a quick announcement. Next week will be week 26 of TTGGT which means I’ve been writing this series for half a year now. As I know I recently started Novels to Discover, a series similar to this but with book reviews. With that being said, NTD didn’t really take off and so I’ve unfortunately decided to stop that series.

As next week will be half a year of music reviews, I have decided that Tunes to Get Grooving To will come to an end. BUT that doesn’t mean my music reviews will disappear forever. I will be coming back to give you “The New Groove”, a monthly article with the latest music and up-and-coming musicians!

So, here is week 25 for you all. The penultimate Tunes to Get Grooving To…

1. “petty crime” – Easy Life

Easy Life formed back in 2017, and this UK based band has been perfecting their indie/R&B vibes ever since. Their music merges genres such as pop and hip-hop to create chill, fun records that you can groove to. I’m always dancing to their tunes, so I cannot fault their musical talent.

“petty crime” is a part of their new EP “see you later maybe never (demos)” along with their song “peanut butter”, in which both songs have already been highly praised. YouTube comments state: “this song is such a vibe” and “Easy Life make bangers only” and, to be honest, I completely agree. Their tunes are so easy to listen to and I love that.

2. “Level of Concern” – Twenty One Pilots

It has been a hot minute since I’ve heard new music from these guys, and it’s quite refreshing. If you haven’t heard of these two musical beauties, they have been around since 2015 and fit in the same genre as Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy. Chances are you probably listened to these guys back in the days of your “emo” phase.

“Level of Concern” is a pop tune that has a great music video (which features a super cute baby!!), as well as being a great tune in general. It’s very upbeat and you’ll be dancing around in no time. I have this song on repeat at the minute, so go check it out because it is definitely worth it.

3. “Sliced Bread” – Josie Proto

Josie became “accidentally” went viral with an original song she put on TikTok called “BTEC Lily Allen”, which consisted of negative comments regarding her singing that she turned into lyrics. Shortly after that any negative comments were replaced with an abundance of support and love, and Proto decided to continue sharing her music. She is definitely one to watch this year.

“Sliced Bread” is a break-up song, but a happy one at that. The lyrics state: “kicking you out was better than sliced bread”. This is Proto’s second single, and it shows just how much potential she has. This is such a comical, uplifting tune and I can’t stop listening to it! The vocals and lyrics are perfect and her pure talent for singing and song-writing is phenomenal. Check her out!!

4. “Stuck With U” – Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber

This song is in response to the COVID-19 response, and all net proceeds from sales and streams of this tune will be funding grants and scholarships for children of first responders who have been impacted by the current global pandemic. Hopefully, through the use of this song, so much can be raised to help those in need during these times.

Despite all of that, this song is great even without the COVID-19 context. It is an uplifting, cute romance song that many couples will be singing together while they’re stuck in quarantine. It’s catchy and a great listen!

Listen to “Stuck With U” here:

5. “Plastic Plants” – Mahalia

Mahalia has been a musical genius since she was 13, when she was originally discovered by a major record label. She took time to finish school and by 16 she had performed with musicians such as Rudimental, and even had an acting role in a popular UK drama. Her music fuses soul singing with alt-R&B, and it’s perfect.

“Plastic Plants” features on Mahalia’s new EP “Isolation Tapes”. One perfect lyric from this tune is “if your roses are dead and your violets ain’t true, then I don’t wanna grow next to you”. Ooh! Beautiful lyrics and a catchy tune. Perfect to jam out to.
