A story about a woman who has given up on love, only to get reeled back by a guy who wins her heart so she wonders how she got through her defenses

A story about the emotions that the woman is feeling as she free falls into love despite all efforts not to

A story about the singer’s obsession with fame and the validation that comes with it

A story about a woman’s perception in the public eye versus the reality of stardom

A story about appreciating beauty and feeling alive in the moment

A story about how people perceive the singer as a freak and how they taunt him for his appearance but in reality, they should fear their ignorance

A story about a man loving his partner against all odds and reflects on getting older and fidelity and love in a conventional context

A story about a farewell and friendship, and saying goodbye to a close friend who has been with you throughout the good times and bad times

Heathens by Twenty-One Pilots:

A story about war veterans who have mental illness and is now uncivilized and the nonconformist nature of the fans of the band

Somebody that I Used to Know by Goyte featuring Kimbra:

A story about a mutually ended relationship in which one person feels a pain that the other refuses to feel

Black Beatles by Rae Sremmud featuring Gucci Mane:

A story about two men portraying themselves as black counterparts to rock icons by tagging themselves at the Black Beatles because of their fame, wealth and women

Ganja Burn by Nicki Minaj:

A story about a woman defending her position in the music industry, while sending a message to other female rappers

Bad Things by Camilla Cabello and Machine Gun Kelly

A story about a sexually charged relationship between a good girl and a guy from the wrong side of the tracks

The Night is Still Young by Nicki Minaj:

A story about encouraging others to make the most of their lives and having fun

The Boys by Nicki Minaj featuring Cassie

A story about criticizing men who spend all their money on love, illustrating their superficiality and lack of depth and touches on sexual relationships that describe men who indulge in women but become unfulfilled and unhappy

Chun Li by Nicki Minaj:

A story about a woman who thinks she is the good guy being looked like the bad guy and even when fighting for a worthy cause, people can still flip it (the video game character Chun Li represents the power and strength of a female character)

Black Widow by Iggy Azalea featuring Rita Ora:

A story about so enamored with somebody that you are so obessed with them that you hate their guts and just want to kill them (the black widow is a venomous spider who is known for having intercourse with their mate and later, killing him)

Work from Home by Fifth Harmony featuring Ty Dolla Sign:

A story about how women are lonely at home while their significant others are stuck at work in the night and they ache for their lover’s touch, telling them they don’t have to go to work but instead stay home and work in bed, comparing their intimacy as a vacation

Maria by Christina Aguilera:

A story about the lost side of the singer.

She uses “Searching For Maria” as a reference to the Sound of Music – in which the character of Maria, an irrepressible free spirit, struggles to find herself & her freedom

Dark Horse by Katy Perry featuring Juicy J:

A story about being careful of what you wish for since you might get it (the term dark horse means someone who is little known but unexpectedly wins or succeed)

One Last Time by Ariana Grande:

A story about a woman’s desire to spend “one last time” as in one final night, with ex-boyfriend, after which she promises to let him go but she is racked with guilt as she admits to her ex-boyfriend that she has been unfaithful

Never Forget You by Zara Larsson:

A story about someone who misses the other person and wants to see them; they know that they’ll never forget

Up in Flames by Nicki Minaj:

A story about a woman sending her competition in flames, meaning to destroy them and the choir is exclaiming that we (female rappers) now are being burnt alive because she just lit them on fire, and they are dying

There’s Nothing Holding Me Back by Shawn Mendes:

A story about a man’s relationship with a manipulative female, depicting his consent to the mental and emotional impact that his behavior has on him

Pretty Girl Rock by Keri Hilson:

A story about how every woman should feel about herself and many rules of society’s view of beauty

Fighter by Christina Aguilera:

A story about a woman becoming stronger and better after someone has hurt her and finally realizing that she cannot be hurt anymore
