VERSE ONE
You cut the fabric of my heart
To assemble your red flags
Then wore them like a bloody badge of honor
Satisfied I'd played my part
Another victim in your hands
Another lover slaughtered in your massacre
**
CHORUS
And I wonder how I missed the signs
Those sirens blaring your intentions
The subtle cues that you left, laying at my feet
I was so tangled in your lies
Your blue eyes hiding the deception
An ultimate accomplice in my own defeat
**
VERSE TWO
You prepared me like a gourmet meal
Didn't skimp on any trimmings
Filled my head up with illusions, grandiose
You checked the box of every feel I needed
Sending my heart and head a reeling
I should have seen it coming, I suppose
**
CHORUS
And I wonder how I missed the signs
Those sirens blaring your intentions
The subtle cues that you left, laying at my feet
I was so tangled in your lies
Your blue eyes hiding the deception
The ultimate accomplice in my own defeat
**
BRIDGE
Cause when it's too good, then it's too good
And the way it ended, turned out, wasn't really good for me
You played me for a fool and you read me like a book
I was blind baby, but believe me, now I see.....
I did the devils dirty work for him, for free
**
VERSE THREE
I only hope my battle scars will tell the tale I couldn't tell
And warn the next one on your list, to be aware
Cause sometimes the road to heaven mimics the path to hell
Please be cautious of the red flags people wear
**
CHORUS
And I wonder how I missed the signs
Those sirens blaring your intentions
The subtle cues that you left, laying at my feet
I was so tangled in your lies
Your blue eyes hiding the deception
The ultimate accomplice in my own defeat
**
OUTRO
If you'd have told me years ago, the road leading to my demise
Would be paved with secrets there, behind a pair of deep blue eyes
That I would surrender without fight, everything that made me, me
I would have laughed, but then, you couldn't let me see.....
The me you needed me to be, the me you created so carefully
Made me the your accomplice, in my own defeat

Authors Note:
Walls and red flags; lessons and things we've had to experience and wrestle with, teaching us the hard lessons... not everything is as it seems. We all have them, we've all felt that sting for the first time, causing us to change how we view life and others. Some searing us to our cores, changing us internally, indefinitely, irreversibly.
Can you remember a time that you didn't have those walls built up around your heart, protecting you? When you could take another person at their word..
I wonder what the world would be like if we could return to a time of that kind of trust. When red flags were indicators of situations that warned us of potential dangers, not people.
How sad to know that some people require that kind of warning. Thay are the most dangerous. Luring you into a calm sense of trust and unpredictably changing like the wind or tide, putting you in extreme danger, with little or no warning or escape.
This song tells a bit of my own experience with love. My naivety and renewed longing to make myself whole again Learning to navigate love and life in a sea of red flags.
