See Me
A song for the Harmonic Verses challenge inspired by the Femen March for International Women's Day in Paris
Verse 1
Looking out, I see the rise
Of hatred in your eyes.
And I wonder why you boys
Are frightened of my noise?
It's taken years to find my tongue
Always told that it was wrong
And now that I can shout
You don't like what I'm about!
*
Bridge
Do you see me as a threat?
A thing to box up and forget?
I could be standing at your side
But you just want to deride
Me, not see me for myself
You'd rather place me somewhere else
Where I'm smothered and subdued
Only handled when you're in the mood
*
Chorus
But I am not a handmaid
I will not be a slave
I am not a trophy
I'm more than just a "she".
*
Verse 2
Watch me walk among the crowds
Mouth wide, protesting, loud!
We will not be silenced here
And we will not disappear.
Like a warrior of old,
I will fight for what I hold.
Bare my breast for all to see
Expose my feminine glory!
*
Bridge
Do you see me as a threat?
A thing to box up and forget?
I could be standing at your side
But you just want to deride
Me, not see me for myself
You'd rather place me somewhere else
Where I'm smothered and subdued
Only handled when you're in the mood
*
Verse 3
You do not want us here
But our legacy is clear.
The women that you crave
Live back there in the caves.
In our timely evolution
Comes the time for revolution
We will not force you to cow
But we won't be backing down!
*
Bridge
Do you see me as a threat?
A thing to box up and forget?
I could be standing at your side
But you just want to deride
Me, not see me for myself
You'd rather place me somewhere else
Where I'm smothered and subdued
Only handled when you're in the mood
*
Chorus
But I am not a handmaid
I will not be a slave
I am not a trophy
I'm more than just a "she".
*
Verse 4
We are mothers, we are girls,
We are bitches, we are pearls
We are savage, we're controlled
We have the fire to be bold.
We just want to be heard
A right that we deserve
We are here and we are strong
And we know that we belong.
*
Bridge
Do you see me as a threat?
A thing to box up and forget?
I could be standing at your side
But you just want to deride
Me, not see me for myself
You'd rather place me somewhere else
Where I'm smothered and subdued
Only handled when you're in the mood
*
Chorus
But I am not a handmaid
I will not be a slave
I am not a trophy
I'm more than just a "she".
*
Outro (repeat to fade)
See me!
See me!
Because I won't be backing down
I'm more than just a "she"!
See me!
See me!
Because I'm more than just a "she"
See me in my glory!

Suno helped me to create a song for my lyrics which I have attached here:
I do not think that I could paint myself and walk bare-breasted in the streets of Paris to protest but I admire the spirit of the women who did. I want to live in a world where women are valued for the many things that we embody and I do feel that that status is in danger of being eroded, if it's not happening already (some may argue it's never really been there in the first place). These women obviously feel that there is a clear and present danger and I stand with them against those who would want us to be less, whoever they are.
