Prince fans and the mainstream masses alike know the classic hits spawned from The Purple One’s seminal release by heart: “Let’s Go Crazy,” “When Doves Cry” and the epochal title track, all of which became staples of radio, MTV and Prince’s live repertoire. Now, 33 years later, we have reason to rejoice and revisit this stunning work of genius anew with the release of the remastered Purple Rain Deluxe Expanded Edition.

This lengthened compilation contains the official 2015 Paisley Park Remaster from the original master tapes, which was supervised by Prince himself, and presents the historic soundtrack in an exhilarating new light. This is unequivocally the best Purple Rain has ever sounded and an immense enhancement over the original 1984 release. Additionally, the set includes a disc of 11 previously unreleased tracks from the fabled vault, as well as the B-sides, extended dance mixes and single edits from the era, and a 36-page booklet complete with liner notes and song lyrics.

However, this deluxe edition’s pièce de résistance is the first-ever DVD release of Prince and The Revolution: Live. This electrifying 2-hour performance was caught on film during the historic Purple Rain Tour and features Sheila E., Apollonia Kotero, plus, a scorching 18-minute rendition of “Purple Rain.”

This ultimate version of Purple Rain is not only an impressive collector’s item, but it is also Prince’s final vision of his definitive masterwork.
