We've got something for everyone and a little something special for me.

Before we can create a proper playlist for Halloween we need to think about what is Halloween. First and most importantly, Halloween is also my birthday. That being said I'd like to think that everyone out in the world celebrating with their costumes on are actually in part celebrating me and my day.

Halloween is a day for fantasy. It's the day when you can let your imagination run wild, allowing you to transform into any character of your choosing. It’s a day when witches, zombies, and goblins co-exist with princesses and superheroes. These characters are no longer trapped within the recesses of your mind, but instead, they become 3-D, coming to life in the form of costumes and fun. As we enter into the month of October, the anticipation of Halloween is often marked by spooky decorations including, a black background with green slime, spiderwebs, ghosts, witches, and jack-o-lanterns to name a few.

Above all else, Halloween is meant to be fun. It's a day where both children and adults get to participate in the make-believe and magic of Halloween. It’s an opportunity for adults to leave the stress of the real world behind for a day, enjoying costume parties or taking their children trick-or-treating. It’s all about fun.

With that said let’s get dressed up, jam to some great music, and have a great time!

Halloween Playlist

1. Let’s get this party started with Chandler Kinney’s "Halloween House Party." What better way to get the party started than to make sure all the guests are ready. Over an upbeat tempo, Kinney asks the guests “Are you ready for a Halloween house party?” The song isn’t scary but will get party guests in the mood and moving their bodies.

2. If I had to choose one song that embodies Halloween perfectly, it’s Michael Jackson’s "Thriller". The music video starts off as a mini scary movie, putting fear in your heart before the song even starts. Then Michael Jackson as a zombie (followed by dozens more) sings lyrics like “You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it. You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes. You're paralyzed.” Even without the video his lyrics perfectly describe the fear one would feel if they were trapped in a situation with a bunch of zombies.

3. The next video on the list is "Monster Mash" by Bobby Pickett. This song is a combination of creepy and fun. Bobby Pickett’s voice is creepy as he describes a scene where the monsters in his lab come to life and do a dance called the Monster Mash.

4. Next, we have Eminem’s “My Name Is”, in which Eminem introduces his alter ego Slim Shady who through the lyrics of the song and the video, we can see is a little insane. Eminem, himself has been known for some creepy/scary lyrics throughout his career, and "My Name Is", is no different. It’s one of his earlier songs and showcases his "other personality". We even see one of his characters struggling in a straight jacket. All these characters definitely embody the Halloween spirit as each one showcases a side of him. Halloween is all fun and games but it's also a chance to show off a part of us that we might usually keep hidden.

5. For this next song, we’re bringing back Michael Jack as he collaborates with his sister Janet Jackson in the song, “Scream,”. Throughout the song, we can hear both of them screaming. It gives the song a creepy vibe perfect for a Halloween party.

6. It wouldn’t be a Halloween party without America’s favorite creepy TV family. “They’re creepy and their kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re all together ooky, The Adams Family.” And so the Adam's Family Theme Song had to make an appearance on this list. Even if they don’t know the lyrics to this catchy song, everyone in the party will know exactly when to do the double snap.

7. This is the point of the party where I want everyone to really get up and dance. China Anne McClaine may be “Calling All The Monsters,” in this upbeat pop song, but at my party, I want everyone out on the dance floor. Whether you’re dressed like Frankenstein or little red riding hood, it’s time to get up and dance.

8. Speaking of Monsters, let's not forget about a very unique "monster". What's creepier than a plant come to life that needs to feed on your blood? Is it a plant? A monster? A vampire? Maybe it's all three. So of course Audrey had to make an appearance at this party with "Feed Me Seymour" from Little Shop of Horrors.

9. Kesha keeps it creepy with her song “Cannibal” in which she sings about “eating you up” and drinking blood. Any relation to Aubrey? (hehe) Perhaps this would be the perfect time for pigs in blankets and red wine. Hors d’oeuvre anyone? Something to drink perhaps? *wink, wink*

10. It wouldn’t be a Halloween party without scaring the guests, just a little. The lights start to flicker and we start to hear random noises from different parts of the room. Just as the guests are really starting to get a little creeped out, the lights go out, and “The Twilight Zone” theme song comes on. That tune in itself is super creepy. Oh, don't be such a scaredy-cat it’s all in fun.

11. Not everyone likes to be scared on Halloween, sometimes what you need is someone to rescue you. So this next song is for all the superheroes in the house. We're going with Simon Curtis’ upbeat and fun “Superhero”.

12. Speaking of being rescued, let's bring out the Ghostbusters. This next song may be lighthearted, but you can’t deny that having ghosts around is a very Halloween problem to have.

13. Some of these songs might seem like they’re for children, but let’s not forget this is a party for adults. Parents leave the kiddies at home and let’s have some fun with “Lady Marmalade” featuring Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Pink, and Maya. Doesn’t seem like a Halloween song? Well, Halloween is about fantasy after all and this song is about playing out a fantasy.

Bonus Songs:

We do have two bonus features that may not be quite Halloweeny, but oh so necessary at this party.

First Janet Jackson and Busta Rhymes, “What’s it gonna be." Ok, this is definitely another one for the adults, but it's okay because there are no kids here. The theme of the song might not be about Halloween but the outfits and makeup definitely are. You have to admit the visual of Janet Jackson and Busta Rhymes performing the song in this wet silver slime is really cool. Anyone who tried to recreate these outfits would absolutely win best costume at the party.

And last but not least Stevie Wonder’s "Happy Birthday", because it is my birthday after all.

This is my Halloween party playlist and like I said we had a little something for everyone. These songs are sure to make it a fun night and a good time for everyone.
