In light of the events which took place at Astroworld, crowds may have to recede from the stage and refrain from being able to throw objects at performers. This is the case of rapper Rico Nasty becoming indignant during the Vamp King tour. After someone launched a bottle onstage, she jumped into the crowd. To say the least, she was livid.

Now, this is obviously not protocol, and security should have dealt with the matter proficiently, and swiftly. As a young woman of slight build she never should have had to handle a group of rabid fans by herself; she should have had more protection.

When she first discovered the infamous bottle, she let off a few expletives, fury rising in her voice. She asked the question of the crowd, “Who was it?” the sense of agitation bubbling to the surface.

Then, after a short exchange with the crowd, she leapt from the platform amongst her supposed fans.

This is where the line has to be drawn, between supporters and fanatics. Fanatics, or fans, feel they can do anything. They can rush stages, throw objects, and endanger themselves and others. Supporters will exchange funds for merchandise, and seek to enjoy a good show. A fan will always worship the subject, while the supporter can critique objectively.

Rico Nasty has time to grow into a wonderful performer. She has the ability to be the vigilant beacon of hip hop justice. By letting her team fight her battles with crowds, she may have a chance to use her mind.

Whoever threw the bottle should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Suppose the bottle had shattered against Rico Nasty’s face? Then what? There would possibly be jail time, and a lengthy lawsuit at hand. Because the fan was too cowardly, and remained anonymous, there’s no telling where this miscreant could be hiding.

Rico Nasty’s boldness ought to be lauded, even though she did put herself in danger. She should take this experience and learn there will always be people who will test her sensitivity.

What may happen is the “Poppin’” emcee will walk away from this with a sobering understanding of what not to do during a concert.

Her thoughts detail her affinity for acting first, and thinking last. If she just takes the time to reason, she will know better than to find herself surrounded by more wolves than sheep.

As the tour continues, will she be hampered by her own inability to step in back, and not let God, but let her security team handle matters?

Will she then place her trust in the minds of her lawyers and accountants, who will parse through all of this effectively and decisively?

With the knowledge of actual deaths at Astroworld, this scene could have been just as horrific, or even more.

On the side of reason, Rico Nasty may need to study other ways previous artists have handled disrespectful hecklers. In regard to her performance on stage, this might encourage her to improve her skills. Once she manages to step up her game, she may not have bottles and other debris thrown at her.

She should not have to panic in her next concert as she considers being further from the crowd.

Her anger was warranted. Had she just thought to either delay or cancel the show, she might not have been in harm’s way. Fortunately, she was not injured in the whole affair.

Things could have been worse but they always could have been better. The crowd could have rocked with the rapper and disallowed anyone from projecting objects on stage. That would have been quite the show.
