If you like to visit the last remaining super cool MP3 blogs that still somehow actually exist in 2022, like Fingertips and Said the Gramophone, then you might spend an inordinate amount of time downloading files if you're downloading your MP3s one by one. If this is something you do, STOP! Get the phenomenal download manager DownThemAll (DTA) for Mozilla Firefox. This browser extension made of magic is best used as a batch downloader for static webpages. It will allow you to quickly strip mass quantities of MP3s off of MP3-hosting music blogs until your little music-lovin' heart is content.

It's worth noting that as of 2019 DownThemAll additionally released Chrome and Opera browser extensions. Prior to that, DTA only ran in Mozilla browsers. Presumably, DownThemAll offers the same functionality across all three platforms. I can't personally speak to cross-browser comparisons and functionality, though, since I only use DTA with Mozilla Firefox.

Also of note is that while DownThemAll is my go-to web gadget for batch downloading MP3 files, the add-on can be used for downloading much more than MP3s. All kinds of music files can be downloaded with DTA including (but not limited to) WAV, WMA, and FLAC files. A fast filtering feature can be used to target specific filetypes, such as MP4 or WAV files, to the inclusion (or exclusion) of all other filetypes. For instance, let's say you want to include MP4s with the rest of your audio downloads. The MP4 filetype is not originally listed with DownThemAll's built-in presets. However, you're able to include MP4s with your batched audio downloads by using a very simple and fast filter query. DTA then searches the page for your filtered "MP4" term and includes all MP4 files with the rest of your downloadable audio filetypes.

On the other hand, I generally download MP3s to the exclusion of everything else. Therefore, I contrarily use filter preferences to block all other filetypes aside from MP3s from being downloaded. Additionally, I can abort downloads as or before they occur. Using fully customizable criteria thanks to DTA's renaming masks, users can get all of the downloadable file content they want and none of the content they don't.

What's more, with DTA you can even download all of the accessible content from every single one of your open browser tabs. Simultaneously. After downloading the DownThemAll Firefox extension, you have the option of pulling all downloadable content files at the same time. It's your choice whether you want to pull files from just one single webpage, or from all page tabs open in your Mozilla browser. The process for either option is almost exactly the same, and both choices are simple and completed in a couple of quick clicks.

Bonus features of DownThemAll are its pause, restart, and resume features. If Firefox crashes because you have too many music blogs opened at once, your downloads will pick up where they left off the next time Firefox is restarted.

Regardless of how many files and/or filetypes you select to download simultaneously, DownThemAll works best for directly retrieving files from static webpages. This is opposed to externally retrieving hosted downloads from online file storage providers. It's possible DTA might handle such instances, provided you have access to external providers and links. Even if you do, in my estimation, it's not worth the hassle. Nowadays music blogs often hide media content with redirects and other digital folderols, and I understand how annoying that can be. Either way, allow me to repeat myself: DownThemAll works best with hosted downloads from static webpages.

Obviously, what you choose to download is completely up to you. You can find free AND legal MP3s online, especially with the aforementioned Fingertips MP3 blog. Regardless, use discretion when downloading audio files. Assuming you're not being shady, and assuming you actually support the artists you find and like, then I highly recommend you add DownThemAll to your arsenal of digital music management tools.
