Why artists should take more advantage of the holiday season.

So it’s the season of Christmas. The mass media loves to erase thanksgiving, but I digress.Yes it has a sorted history, but it is still funny to see. Also there’s no money in that holiday. So I understand why they move on to Christmas so fast. Now with all this holiday cheer, comes the music we listen to every year. The same standards we have on rotation during this time good or bad, sung by everyone under the sun. The one artist who’s taking this Christmas music thing to the bank is Mariah Carey! She’s the only one who really cashed in on this holiday every year. The queen of Christmas as she’s called, who by the way just extended her run at #1 with “All I Want For Christmas Is You”at 16 Weeks on the Billboard Global 200 Chart. This season is so synonymous with her who knows if we’ll ever get a “regular” album from her again. At this point she doesn’t need to, and my question is why aren’t other singers doing the same thing?

AIWFCIY has been out for almost 30 years and it’s never been as permeated in popular culture as it is now. The streaming age, nostalgic factor, new and old lambs, and social media are all to blame for its renewed and lasting success. Mariah being the business woman she is said if I’m gonna go in I’m doing it all the way. She promotes this song as if it’s new lol. So why is she the only one doing this? There are plenty of other artists with Christmas albums that are even more recent. But yet non of them have cashed in the way she has. Maybe none of their songs are a classic like hers is, but they could be if they promoted them every holiday season like it’s a new project all over again.

One group who could do this and probably make bank is Destiny’s Child. Imagine them getting together this season, to sing a few of their Christmas songs. On any of these holiday specials that have aired, that would be awesome! Seeing them together again is always a treat and it could also do some good for their Christmas album! Maybe open up some lucrative opportunities for them every year.

Christina Aguilera is another example. Her Christmas album came out so long ago I don’t know if people outside her fans even remember it. She could reintroduce it or release a deluxe edition with new songs and watch it fly. The only inspiration that I’ve seen with Christmas being lucrative for artists, is new albums being released. From people who’ve never made one like Cher for instance. She’s released her first Christmas album ever and wouldn’t be cool if she performed songs from that album from here on out every year. After all Christmas classics don’t make themselves!

Maybe those who are making new Christmas music will take Mariah’s lead going forward and more of them while make this holiday a chance to cash in. I mean Mariah was on an actual Christmas tour and sung mostly Christmas songs. Who else could do that! So promoting that album from 7,8, or 10 years ago might not be such a bad idea. I understand most artists might not take their Christmas outings as serious as their other works. Some of them do it, because they’re told it’s a good idea. They think it might initially, make them a lot of money. But afterwards it’s crickets down the line. I’m a bit surprised that it hasn’t caught on in the last five years or so. I could see so many doing this like the Backstreet Boys (maybe down the line cause their Christmas album isn’t that old), Michael Buble, N’sync, and Kelly Clarkson who by the way has a whole talk show at her disposal to use. I’m going to manifest this from now on, that this becomes a regular thing every holiday season. So if you see Britney Spears on TV next years singing “My Only Wish (This Year)” I did that! 😂

P.S Did you know that 98 degrees have 2 Christmas Albums!
