Halloween, otherwise called All Hallows' Eve or All Saints’ Eve is celebrated on October 31. It can be traced back to the ancient Pagan festival of Samhain, where people used to dress in costumes to ward off ghosts. As with most traditions, as time and cultures change and merge, rituals change. Halloween today is a fun festival full of fancy-dress ups, sugar filled jars, and joy. It is no longer about celebrating the dead. It is about celebrating monsters and ghouls and all things spooky. It has nearly been forgotten that Halloween is also the time when the veil between the realms is at its thinnest.

Halloween Graveyard Smash Playlist Vol.01

Our playlist opens with the famous spooky instrumental from the X-Files. It continues with two intense and eerie instrumental songs designed to build tension and allow people to arrive and settle in.

Next up are two of my favourite tunes: I Put A Spell On You by Marilyn Manson, and House Of The Rising Sun by The White Buffalo and The Forest Rangers (that deep voice at the start does funny things between my legs).

Our playlist ramps up with the soft rock tune of This Is Halloween by Marilyn Manson to finalise our intro to the best ever Graveyard Smash Party.

Now is the time to thank everyone for coming to the party and warn people that you are not liable for any vampire, werewolf, or zombie attacks. They are to party at their own risk. It would be best if you promised that it is a party playlist worth dying for.

To help encourage people to the wine, you restart the playlist with Hotel California. Thankfully the Captain doesn't tell people that "We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty-nine". The wine is St Stephan's Crown Bulls Blood, one of Hungary's most famous red wines. I am just sorry I couldn't get the exclusive wine from neighbouring Romania.

The night is still young, but the music is old. We have a selection of soft rock from the previous few decades songs such as Devil Woman, Pet Sematary, and Sympathy For The Devil. The mood is dark, but the feet are starting to tap. Great job, the humans' blood are getting warmed up.

Next up is some more rock with Bad Moon Rising and Werewolves of London. The feet and hips should be swaying by now.

Darkness is now upon us, and so the playlist shifts tune. This shift is heralded by the song Curse of Millhaven by Nick Cave. It's an upbeat and high tempo song about a pretty little girl with a murderous streak.

Like my hair ain't yella and my eyes aren't green its more like the other way around - Curse of Millhaven by Nick Cave

Tis the night of monsters. The night where it is easiest for my kind to enter the human world. It is my night to feed safely because we blend in with all the silly costumes.

We now move into the dancing tunes. The Devil Went Down To Georgia will have everyone out of their seats and trying to tap to the beat - this should be fun to watch. The famous spooky pop songs follow it: Ghostbuster's, Somebody's Watching Me, and Time Warp.

Everyone is now sufficiently warmed up and dancing and happy. They only have two more songs to go in the playlist worth dying for.

The penultimate song is Thriller by Michael Jackson. Could it have been anything else?

Dancing is compulsory. Yes, it will look like a cheesy 90s romcom dance scene.

The time is nigh. People stop dancing and take a breath. I am ravenous. Thankfully, there are lots of snack packs in my Graveyard to quench my thirst. A thirst that only gets wetted once a year when I can cross the veil.

To be kind, I leave the human's one last song to find some solace in, Nick Cave's Death Is Not The End.

Hauntingly Beautiful. Now that is what I call a Graveyard Smash.
