Freedumb

It’s quite amazing how an artist can convey their creativity to others heart and soul. How their art has the ability to heal oneself.

There is such a broad connection that has been formed through music, dance, writing, photography and so many other art forms. We’ve been able to build a community that resides its sanity within art and artists.

As we continue to grow and discover more artists every day, I have been particularly intrigued with music artist Emanuel Dorris.

I first discovered him in late September 2019 shortly after the release of his first single ‘Lil’ Miss’. I immediately was drawn to his music style and kept up with his socials for more music releases.

In following him, I came to realize how interactive he was with his followers and how he cared for the well-being of those who supported him. He would often conduct polls and questions asking how people were doing and that his direct messages were always open to talk.

This then led me to form a personal relationship with him and over time I’ve been able to witness his beautiful creative process and mind.

It’s been admirable and inspiring to watch this artist do what he loves to do best — make music and help people through his art.

Since then, he has released an EP called ‘A Message From Dorris’ and two singles released together named ‘Freedumb’.

The ‘Freedumb’ singles included two songs: ‘Dance with Me’ and ‘Advice (Nobody Follows)’.

During this time, Dorris caught himself in a hard place when the rest of the world was shaken followed by the murder of George Floyd. Heavy hearted, he attended protests in Atlanta, Georgia, and did what he could do to help.

The song ‘Advice’ was lyrically one of his most intense songs yet as it was heavily influenced by the injustice that has been recurring.

The creative process around ‘Freedumb’ was one of the deepest he has done thus far. From the titles to the visuals, Dorris was on a nonstop rollercoaster with this release.

The title ‘Freedumb’ was a simple yet meaningful name. Dorris had explained that he simply just wanted to be free but it wasn’t that easy for him hence the “dumb” in ‘Freedumb’. Freedom is something that should be easily accessible to all without fear of anything else but due to societal and personal problems, it’s not always that easy. He took on the ‘Freedumb’ project as part of his own freedom journey with music.

Through his music, Dorris has been able to meet so many supporters and make new friends who keep him inspired every day. He believes in keeping in touch with supporters as much as he can as they’ve helped shape him into the artist he is today. In return, many have reached out to Dorris on a personal level to thank him for his music and the energy he transfers with each song. He truly embeds his songs with love, peace, and truth so you're really able to feel what he's saying. Over the course of the past year, numerous people have shown him gratitude for getting them out of dark places with his music and positive personality.

Dorris is somebody I like to describe as being heard. When he speaks, you can’t help but listen because of how true his intentions are. He does this all so effortlessly. His fearlessness ignites a power in him that automatically mesmerizes you.

Dorris is also very big on team as independent as he is. His team of creatives consists of other musicians, producers, photographers, and artists who continue to expand their capability and reach new levels of artistry. They all have helped one another to transform into the creatives they aspire to be and their gratitude is always evident.

Dorris' impact today has been larger than he could’ve imagined and he intends on growing and expanding his help more in the future.

Emanuel Dorris is somebody whom I’ve grown to love with every ounce of myself. He continuously amazes me with what he can do and how effortlessly he does it. He has changed many lives for the better including my own. He has taught me lessons in every part of life and has been there for me every step of the way. Emanuel Dorris is truly one of a kind and one in my heart.
