Willy Chirino, born Wilfredo Jose Chirino, Pinar del Rio, consolación del sur Cuba. Who left Cuba at age 14 through Operación: Pedro pan, which is a program that airlifted 14,000 children out of Cuba to America Willy was among them. This program was designed to rescue children from what the Castro regime would do to them due to their parents fears that were later confirmed to be reality.

Willy did not come from a musical family. His parents were a lawyer and pharmacist of his town. Willy’s life in Cuba was calm and happy. He describes himself as a musical connoisseur, and has one art contest.

The first musical experience that made him want to be a musician was seeing Benny Moré perform in his town. Willie started his career in the 1970s producing a discography of 30 wonderful albums. In 2006, Willy won Grammy for his album, Son del Alma, and in 2006 celebrated his 35th anniversary in the music business now 45 impressive years in 2017 and since this article is being rewritten in 2023 it marks his 50th year in the music industry.

Willy invented the well-known sound, called the Miami sound. The Miami sound is made up of QM music, Brazilian, music, rock, music, jazz anything basically everything willy ever loved went into creating the Miami sound. In 2013, Willy won the lifetime achievement award at the Latin Grammys and I am the one who wrote the proposal to the Latin Grammys for Willy to receive the award as well and I’m so happy he won.

In a few words, maestro, Crino is a Latin music legend who is a humanitarian as well. He works tirelessly for the freedom of his beloved homeland of Cuba, and is also involved with many other causes in the name of humanity and animal rights helping his wife, Lizette, and her foundation for angels rescue with the Willy Chirino foundation.

Two perfect examples of his humanity: one night after a show, Willy is leaving the venue and sees a car go off the road and dives into the water, and saves the trapped peoples lives. Another example is Willy moved mountains and raised money to save the life of a sick little girl in Cuba, who, with his help, was able to come to America to get help that she needed, and today is a living, healthy and living in the states with her family.

Willy is an icon in the Cuban exile and the Latin community as a whole, and he makes me proud to be Latina! In his music, Willy carries a message of freedom for Cuba, betterment of all mankind, peace, love and positivity, and, of course, fun.

So his songs that are anthems in the fly for Cuba-Nuestra Dia (ya viene llegando) from oxígeno 1991, “canta a La Habana” his CD “Cubanismo”, and “Que se vaya” from “Pa’lante” CD. Willy is the proud papa of six children: Angie, Olgui, Jesse, Nicolle, Gian Franco, and Alana. Willy is also the proud grandfather of five grandchildren. Willy, is someone I’m proud to call friend!

He is an angel and a gift from God and the heavens above to the world who wears his heart on his sleeve. I want to talk more about Willy’s, humanity and patriotism for his homeland Cuba and adopted homeland of the United States of America. He fights tirelessly for Cuba through his songs and music, as well as his non-musical activism. Willie Torino, in his work for Cuba, Latin America, and the world is to bring freedom, love, light, unity, and healing to all. I want to end this article by talking about who Willy Chirino is as a person and human being. he’s a regular guy who is down to earth. He’s a loving and devoted father, husband, grandfather, and friend. Willie is spiritual and funny, humble and grateful, for all God has blessed him with, and all of his success could not have happened to a nicer and more deserving person than Willy Chirino. Willy’s music is universal, it is also accessible, and crosses all cultural and language, borders, and barriers.
