After much saber rattling, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jermaine Dupri have agreed to duke it out, hit for hit in a Verzuz like battle that will be nothing like Verzuz as well.

The confirmation came after a year’s worth of back and forth between the media moguls. They took it upon themselves to iron out the details and to make this fight over songs a reality.

JD came with a few uppercuts declaring that no one can spit Biggie’s lines, Ma$e seems out of the picture, and the So So Def reign from 2000-2003 with Shad “Bow Wow” Moss topping video charts, the producer boasted about his deep catalogue.

Diddy said that the Atlanta impresario was not worth his time and opted to battle Dr. Dre. JD pointed out no one could recite The Notorious B.I.G.’s lines.

This is not to discredit Biggie. He also had acts like Total, Danity Kane, and Shyne. JD bypassed all of those groups by reminding everyone he’s in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a feat yet to be reached by Diddy. He threw in the fact that he produced Mariah Carey’s hit album The Emancipation of Mimi (2005).

It appears that the alleged, mystikal Bad Boy curse has plagued the powerhouse record label. Either your locked up, dead, in jail, broke, or have found a mystified path, Bad Boy still has sold over a seventy five million records in its almost thirty year history. So So Def turns thirty next year as well.

JD isn't worried about anything except for his preference for extremely young talent. From Kris Kross to Da Brat, JD has always been on the lookout for the most youthful of performers.

With these two musical juggernauts going head to head in the battle for rap and R&B supremacy, they are poised to bring entertainment and playful jousting to the fore once again.

The playful barbs have become a mainstay on the Verzuz circuit, and this battle seems to be no different. Both men of color have charted success for themselves and made the music world a better place with their business acumen and undeniable talent.

To disregard the abilities of these two generals of sound would be a waste of treasures. Their capacity to craft tunes has sustained them and built their media empires.

Diddy is away from a “seat [he] can’t pay for” in JD’s eyes because he can’t compete with his position as a hall of famer (yet). If the Verzuz in anything like the past battles, we may see two distinguished gentlemen commit to sonic boxing over the decades worth of tunes.

All of the many songs will have to be whittled down to a select few much like the other Verzuz challenges. The hottest songs with the best hooks will be prime for this particular skirmish. As the decorated generals who put in the time and sweat equity to build their fortresses of sound have shown, this ought to be a Verzuz for the ages.

In both men, the fight for the ears and minds of the people that grew up on their music will propel them to heights not reached in other battles. They will extend their prowess on that stage to try to heal the Triller kerfuffle with Swizz Beatz and Timbaland in their legal case. Now that that has all been quashed, it’s important to note that JD and Diddy have every right to make their marks yet again in cyberspace.

This is the new, now, and the next but paradoxically, they will be culling from the vaults to tout songs from the 90’s, 00’s, 10’s, and today to illustrate the power pushed out by these two producer/rapper behemoths.

Once they finally sit upon their thrones, they will be judged and scored fittingly. Whoever comes out as the victor, he will have bragging rights without a hint of respect lost between them.
