Awaken your inner child, it's Halloween!

13 songs for a comedic dance party.

I reach for my favorite oversized hood by the door and stop. A faint scraping noise sounds as though someone, or something, is coming towards my house. I look out the peephole and see a hunched-over clown, disheveled makeup and hair, limping and dragging one leg as it slowly hobbles up my doorstep. I swing the door open holding a giant bowl of Reese’s and proclaim "Happy Halloween"! The cutest little creepy clown smiles and yells "Trick or Treat" as their tiny hand grabs the loot before scurrying away to the next source of candy.

Many people believe Halloween is for children, and I agree, but that doesn’t mean adults can’t enjoy the festivities. Halloween is the perfect day to awaken the inner child in all of us! My Halloween Playlist is designed to scream "It's freakin Halloweenie" to your inner child, with a guarantee you will laugh, dance like no one's watching, and forget about the real world one night.

A Playlist should initiate the vibe at the beginning of a party, then follow the natural flow as the night wears on and intoxication levels increase. The first songs are light and silly, primarily from TV or movies, fittingly so since Halloween is steeped in pop culture references. This sets the tone and lets guests' inner child know they are safe here, it's time to come out and play!

As the night goes on, strangers become best friends, cat whiskers turn into smudges, and million-degree wigs and masks are abandoned throughout the house. Everyone's feeling free and united, this is when it’s guaranteed that if you hit them with the classics, they will sing along, and they will dance like a goofball.

Your Inner child isn't 5, it's every age you were when you were "just a kid". All the years you look back on as your young and dumb days, including your teens and early twenties. This Playlist has a little bit for each phase of our younger days.

1. Rowan and Hastings - Halloween Surfboard

This comedic icebreaker tortured the staff at Cloud 9. If the weirdness of a song about Dracula putting on Moon-tan lotion isn’t enough to catch your guest's attention, feel free to slip it into the playlist multiple times until your guest can’t get “Halloween surfboard” out of their heads.

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas Soundtrack- This is Halloween

This classic needs no introduction and it makes wonderful background noise as party guests introduce themselves and mingle.

3. LEATHERFACE - "Friends with no Faces..."

For a dash of comedy with a familiar and catchy tune, add this remake of “Friends in low places”. Guests will be confused why you're playing this song until some creepy guy starts telling you how he kills folks instead of getting drunk at an exes wedding.

4. Run DMC - Ghostbusters

Continuing with the theme of a classic beat with a comedic twist, Run DMC breaks down ghost hunting like a G.

5. Andre 3000 - Dracula's Wedding (Feat. Kelis)

Andre 3000’s ideal for any party playlist. For this holiday he blessed us with a song about Dracula’s only fear, love.

6. Rob Zombie - Living Dead Girl (Official Video)

Rob Zombie offers a logical and welcomed transition from comedy to a gothic rock break. Living Dead Girl is mellow enough to not alienate your anti-rock guest while providing a real Halloweenie, dark vibe.

7. Fuck you like an animal - Nine inch nails

This classic provides a little comedy, a little darkness, and a little bit of teenage-style dancing aka dry humping while singing the chorus, which is likely the only words they know.

8. Insane Clown Posse - Hokus Pokus

This I.C.P. remix is set to “Insane in the Membranes” beat. It’s guaranteed to get people’s blood pumping and may turn your entire house into a dance floor.

9. Twiztid - We Don't Die (Official Music video)

This one is primarily on my playlist since it was the soundtrack to my teenage years, but it still adds to the vibe overall. Dark yet you can get hyphy to it.

10. SLASHSTREET BOYS - “I'LL KILL YOU THAT WAY" (OFFICIAL BACKSTREET BOYS PARODY)

Since your guests are likely buzzed at this point and ready for some weirdness, this song leads us back to comedies set to familiar tunes. Using these old beats taps into your guest’s memories and emotions from that song's time frame. Adding comedy to a familiar beat amplifies childlike feelings awakened by old memories.

11. Monster Mash (Lyrics)

For many people it won’t feel like Halloween without hearing Monster Mash, don’t leave them hanging!

12. Original GhostBusters Theme Song

This classic is insanely fun to sing along to, especially if you're buzzed and everyone’s dressed up lookin like there’s something strange in your neighborhood.

13. “I Put A Spell On You” By Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker & Kathy Najimy | Hocus Pocus

You’ll likely see a few ladies' jaws drop and hear a couple of Woooooo’s when this one comes on. I’ve yet to meet a woman that didn’t watch this every Halloween season growing up. Few can resist singing along with their ladies! Feel free to join in or just enjoy the show Gentlemen!

Happy Halloweenie Goblins and Ghouls!
