There is nothing wrong with "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran or "So High" by John Legend as your wedding day song. In fact, though very popular as wedding songs they remain undoubtedly very beautiful songs to express one's love with. That being said, sometimes as LGBTQ people it would be nice to have romantic songs written for our types of relationships by artists that understand our struggles.

Here are 5 Romantic Wedding Songs for LGBTQ Couples:

5. "She Keeps Me Warm" By Mary Lambert

This is a classic slow dancing song made popular by being featured in a 2012 Macklemore song called "Same Love". Mary Lambert has a lot of lovely sapphic songs including "I'd be your Wife" and "Love is Love" but the popularity of "She Keeps Me Warm" is really what settled it into a top spot on this list.

With lyrics like "She says I smell like safety and home" and the powerful chorus line of "I can't change, even if I tried , Even if I wanted to , My love, my love, my love, my love , She keeps me warm" this song has settled itself into LGBTQ history as something sweet and soft to listen to on a Sunday morning.

4. "Running Back To You" By Bright Light Bright Light feat. Elton John

If you are looking for something with powerful lyrics and a dance feel then look no further than Bright Light Bright Light's "Running Back To You".

Welsh artist Rob Thomas hasn't exactly reached the popularity he should have with his thought provoking lyrics and fun pop feel but this ballad really combines his best two attributes into a perfect rhythm.

This song reads like a poem with metaphors of midnight and oceans, of fires blooming, and waves crashing in. Once he has you with the romantic lyrics he kicks off the chorus with kick ass gospel-feel. That feeling you get listening to Madonna's "Like a Virgin" translates right into this equally dance-ready tune. Don't take my romantic word for it, give it a listen yourself.

3. "Colour" by MNEK feat. Hailee Steinfeld

If you are a little more hip hop and a little less synthpop MNEK in general has incredible songs though "Colour" could certainly bring a light and airy feel to your special day.

With lyrics like, "Before you came into my life , Everything was black and white , Now all I see is colour . Like a rainbow in the sky" you can assure yourself this is a feel good R&B dance hit.

With the added benefit of Hailee Steinfeld's melodic voice you can count on this song to have everyone dancing and cheering alongside you.

2. "Shine" by Years&Years

Is this song inherently meant to be romantic? Perhaps not, but with lyrics like "You know that you make it shine and it's you that I've been waiting to find" it is easy to see how this song made it to this list.

Years&Years is nothing new to the LGBTQ music scene having hits like "Real" and "Desire" rounding out their repertoire. The lyrics give off an epic feel to the love story it is telling and the synthpop build up sets you up for an incredible dance moment for you and your partner.

Lead singer Olly Alexander's ecclectic voice really rounds this song out in giving it a strong yearning and pining feeling that encompasses how love feels when it sweeps you away.

1. "Your Song" by Elton John

Never dismiss a classic! This soft piano ballad has been the dream of lovers for over five decades. That's fifty years! It premiered in 1970 and has been a favorite of mine and honestly most people that have ever given it a listen.

The song itself says it is simple but the dreamy feel of it and the honesty of the lyrics has easily found this song in the top lists of most romantic songs ever written. To me, it always feels like someone reading a love letter out loud.

Add to that Elton John's strong and bluesy voice and you got yourself a romantic slow song for all ages and backgrounds to dance to and enjoy.
