Trickbot continues to reign as UAE’s top malware threat
Check Point Research, the Threat Intelligence arm of Check Point® Software Technologies Ltd. has published its latest Global Threat Index for February 2021. Researchers reported that the Trickbot Trojan continues to reign as the top malware targeting 7 percent of UAE businesses for the second consecutive month. xHelper, a malicious application seen in the wild since March 2019, used for downloading other malicious apps and display advertisement, sees an increase in activity as it targets to close to 6 percent of users in the UAE.

HP reveals 29% of malware captured was previously unknown
HP Inc. released its new Quarterly Threat Insights Report, providing analysis of real-world attacks against customers worldwide. The report found that 29% of malware captured was previously unknown – due to the widespread use of packers and obfuscation techniques by attackers seeking to evade detection. 88% of malware was delivered by email into users’ inboxes, in many cases having bypassed gateway filters. It took 8.8 days, on average, for threats to become known by hash to antivirus engines – giving hackers over a week’s ‘head-start to further their campaigns.
